You can tell a lot from someone's eyes. I've heard the expression 'the eyes are the windows to the soul', and it's true. People lie. Faces lie. The words that come from within ourselves are often lies. But eyes never lie. No matter how hard you smile, a smile that doesn't quite meet the eyes will reveal your sadness. Disgust, hatred, disappointment; all in the eyes if only one looks closely.
I have seen these emotions. I can read the eyes of everybody. If you know what to look for you can see straight through the pupils and into the very essence of a person. Most people don't notice. In a world where everyone has places to be and things to do, no one takes the time to get to know people. To find out how their mind works and how they think and feel. Our eyes are so often cast downwards, at a screen, at a newspaper, at the vast expanse of grey stone slab, dotted with greying spots of old chewing gum, that we simply do not think to look around at the people beside us.
People no longer truly know each other. You have forgotten how to interpret the eyes of others, and instead take their lying words as the truth. Look a little deeper, I beg of you. Look through the windows and who knows what you may discover. Open your eyes and who knows what you will see.
