I woke up in some sort of room, and I had to blink a few times to see clearly again, but I sat up and looked around. I realized that I was in a bedroom, and by the looks of the pictures of Jonathan Scott and Donnie Wahlberg on the walls, I guessed that it was mine.
For some reason, I remembered everything that had happened, but I was in a different bedroom. This wasn't like the bedroom I used to have. I looked out the window, and saw that I was even living on a different street.
I jumped out of bed, and swung my door open. I looked down the hall both ways, and saw no one. I was still confused, so I went back into my room, and closed the door.
I had to take a deep breath to calm down. Then I realized something that might have happened. Since Jay and I had saved his mother, it changed both of our lives. I was actually quite sad that it had changed everything now that it had happened. Jay was gone from my life, and I had to live with that forever, but I was glad that he most likely ended up way better than he had before.
I heard someone calling my name. "Rylie!"
I was glad that my name was still Rylie. The voice sounded so familiar, but I wasn't quite sure who it was.
I hesitantly opened my door, and found the staircase. I walked down the stairs and came into a big open concept room. It had a big living room with a huge sectional to the left, and there was a nice sized kitchen to the right.
Standing behind the big island was someone I thought I would never see again in my life. "Jay!" I shouted, sprinting across the room, and I jumped into his arms.
"Why'd you call me Jay?" He asked, smiling.
I looked into his eyes and I could tell that he meant it. He really didn't remember. I was extremely disappointed but happy at the same time. "Oh...," I said. "I just thought..."
"Are you all right?" He asked.
I wiped a tear away and nodded. I had to take a deep breath again. I was glad that he was a good person now, or whatever, but it just wasn't the same. It wasn't my Jay. Now he was just Hunter Zolomon.
"What's the matter?" Hunter or Jay, or something, asked.
I knew that I'd just have to accept my new life. At least I still had him, even if he wasn't the Jay I knew.
"No, really, its fine," I quickly said. "I just remembered something, but its not that important. What's for breakfast?"
"Well, you actually slept in today," he said. "Its two o'clock in the afternoon, but I can make you some pancakes or something?"
"Sure," I shrugged.
I felt a little bit awkward. He was sort of a stranger to me. I didn't know what he was like now, so I made a mental note of everything he said or did to figure out what he was like.
"I smell pancakes!" I heard a woman say cheerfully as she bounded down the stairs.
I literally gasped when I saw who it was. "Caitlin?"
"Yes?" She said.
I shook my head in disbelief. "N-Nothing," I stuttered, and looked at Jay. "I'm actually not very hungry."
Caitlin walked up to Jay and gave him a quick kiss on the lips before he answered, "Why? Are you feeling all right?"
"I just... need to be alone for a while," I said, and I had to run upstairs because he was coming after me.
I got my door closed before he got to it. He lightly knocked on the door. "Rylie, sweetheart, what's the matter?"
I quickly locked the door and rushed to my closet. I found a blue plaid shirt with a black undershirt and dark blue jeans right when I opened it, so I quickly put those on, and took my hair out of a bun, smoothing it out. I found some socks and shoes, so I put them on.
I froze for a moment when I saw something in my closet that I thought would have been gone too. "My suit?"
I was really confused now. I wished that I had my powers, so I could go for another run and calm down, but I'd given that up too.
"Rylie?" Jay said. "Please let me in."
I knew I'd chosen to change my life, but I was starting to dislike it. I found a backpack and stuffed my suit into it before putting it on.
Jay tried opening the door. "Rylie, answer me!"
I didn't answer. I went over to my window, and saw that there was a big tree right next to it that I could climb down. I needed to escape, at least for a little while so I could figure all of this out.
"Rylie!" He said, starting to raise his voice. "If you don't answer me I'll open the door myself."
I quickly opened my window and grabbed hold of a thick branch. I heard Jay picking at the lock now. I climbed onto it and slowly made my way down the tree. Right when my foot touched the ground, Jay's head popped out of the window.
"Rylie!" He shouted. "What are you doing?"
I felt bad for doing this, knowing I'd be in trouble when I came back, but I started running down the street.
I actually knew this place. I'd run here before with Jay when I'd had my powers. It was right next to my old street with my old home.
I didn't stop running until I reached the house. It looked the same, but there was a different car parked outside. I knew someone else lived there, and I didn't really want to bother them, so I continued down the street. I knew how to get to S.T.A.R. Labs from here.
~oOo~
Jay ran down the stairs in a flurry. He rushed to get his shoes on, but Caitlin came over to him, confused. "What's the matter?"
"Rylie ran away, she just escaped through her window," he said. "This is all my fault."
"No, honey, we didn't even know what was wrong," Caitlin tried to comfort him.
"That's exactly the point," he snapped, opening the door and running to his motorcycle.
He floored it down the road, ignoring Caitlin's shouts to wait for her.
~oOo~
I was glad that I was still in shape from practicing with Jay when I had my powers, because I still had quite a few miles to go before I reached S.T.A.R. Labs.
I was running past a little boy who was playing on the street, and I saw a car coming. "Look out!" I shouted, but the little boy didn't have time to react.
All of the sudden, my heroism kicked in, and somehow, I ran over and saved him. I had just used speed, I somehow still had the speed force!
I was really excited, so I smiled and looked down at the boy. "Are you all right?"
He nodded, a bit shaken up, but okay. "T-Thank you," he said and hugged me.
It really felt good to save someone. Now that I had my powers back, I was sure that saving people could help me with my new life. Maybe I could accept it after all?
My happy thoughts were interrupted by the sound of a motorcycle coming. Jay's motorcycle.
"I have to go," I told the little boy, and sprinted normally to the end of the block. I quickly turned the corner to where no one could see me, then I used my speed to run the rest of the way to S.T.A.R. Labs.
