Dr. Wells paused dramatically, but Caroline and I looked at each other again, rolling our eyes. "Tell us!" I said eagerly. "I want to know why I feel this strange force."

"Me too," Caroline nodded. "It's really weird, and kinda freaking me out."

Dr. Wells smiled again, took off his glasses and paced the room. "You both got your powers the same night, right? Well, everything I have tested leads to this... the lightning that hit you, Rylie, also struck Caroline at the same moment that night."

"But my parents said the only thing that happened was that the fire went inside me," Caroline argued.

"They lied, and I told them to," Dr. Wells said.

Caroline glared. "What do you mean?"

"They had to, it was to protect you," Dr. Wells told her. "They were afraid that your powers would get out of control, and they came to me. My best theory was to not tell you everything that happened that night, so you wouldn't try to find more powers. Lightning."

"I can bend lightning?" Caroline said.

I stared at Caroline in surprise. "Whoa."

"And probably much, much more," Dr. Wells explained, and put his glasses back on, finally stopping in front of us. "I know it doesn't make sense that the same lightning could hit both of you, but it was a very big lightning bolt, and Rylie, you were walking right by Caroline's backyard fence when it struck."

"But I don't remember that," I reminded him.

"I know, but that's what most likely happened, because Hunter found you lying there, by the fence, unconscious, and since the hospital didn't know what to do, he brought you to me. I saved your life."

"Yeah, yeah," I said impatiently. "So what does the same lightning striking us have to do with anything?"

"That same lightning, resides in both of you," he said. "That's what gave you both powers, that's why they're drawn to each other. I think, together, you two could be the most powerful of all metahumans."

Caroline cringed at the word 'powerful'. "I don't want to be the all mighty," she snapped. "I don't want these powers at all. They only destroy. That's all they're good for!"

"Oh Caroline, when will you ever learn?" Dr. Wells said, sounding so disappointed, making me slightly annoyed. Caroline was my friend, but, he had a point. "You were able to heal those people in the hospital. That was your powers too. They don't just cause destruction, they can heal people. You even have a gift for being kind to everyone, but that isn't your powers, that is you. Caroline, I know you probably feel like you're a monster, but you're not, and you know that. You have to except who you are, and use it to help people."

As Caroline pondered on his words, I remembered Mr. Rochester's wish. "Doctor Wells, there's something you should know," I spoke up, making him look at me.

"You always have something to tell me," he sighed.

"Yeah...," I chuckled nervously, "well, my neighbor, Mr. Rochester, is actually a meta. The lizard man in jail right now... that's his brother."

"And?" Dr. Wells raised his eyebrows at me, making me more nervous.

"He needs my help to break him out."

"No."

"But Doctor Wells, he threatened to hurt Jay!" I said a bit too loud, then calmed down a little. "You know I'll do almost anything to protect him."

"I told you not to call him Jay," Dr. Wells scolded.

Caroline cleared her throat, interrupting our "conversation".
