The Selkie Boy – Chapter Two
"Please calm down!" Seokjin urged, his voice gentle but firm.
I took a deep breath, trying to steady my racing heart.
This can't be happening!
Once I had managed to calm myself, I looked at him, my mind still racing.
"Can you tell me who you are? What are you?" I asked, my voice quieter now, tinged with curiosity.
He sighed deeply, his expression serious. "My name is Seokjin Kim. I'm a Selkie—half seal in the water, half human on land."
I blinked. "Okay, that still doesn't explain why you're here."
Seokjin's eyes softened as he began to speak again. "I had to escape from my fiancé."
"Fiancé?" I repeated, confused.
"Yes," he said with a sad sigh. "My parents arranged a marriage for me because I'm next in line to become king of the Selkies. But I didn't want to marry her. I ran away to escape it."
I stood there in stunned silence, struggling to process what he was telling me. After a moment, I found my voice again. "I'm sorry that happened to you, but you need to go back. It's dangerous out here."
Seokjin shook his head, his eyes pleading. "I can't go back. If I do, my fiancée will kill me. Please, I need your help."
His gaze turned to something soft, almost childlike—those puppy eyes.
Vanessa, no. You can't fall for the puppy dog eyes!
"Please," he added, his voice soft and desperate.
I sighed, defeated. "Fine," I muttered.
Seokjin smiled brightly, throwing his arms around me in gratitude. "Thank you so much."
"Okay, okay," I said, slightly flustered, "Can you let go of me now? Also, here's a towel so you can cover yourself up."
He pulled away, wrapping the towel around himself to cover his private areas. I started walking, trying to put some distance between us.
"Thank you again... um...?" he trailed off, realizing he didn't know my name.
"Vanessa," I said, glancing back at him.
He smiled warmly. "Thank you again, Vanessa."
My heart skipped a beat when he said my name, and I quickly shook my head, trying to calm my racing thoughts.
Calm down, Nessa.
I kept walking. "Whatever, just follow me."
Seokjin followed me up the wooden stairs, and soon we were at my front door. I pulled out my house keys and unlocked it.
"Come on in," I said, stepping inside.
He hesitated for a moment before stepping through the door.
"I'll be right back," I told him, heading upstairs.
I quickly grabbed my dad's old basketball shorts and a faded t-shirt from their room and rushed back downstairs.
"Here you go, Seokjin. I brought you some clothes."
I turned around, giving him some privacy as he changed.
"You can look now," he said when he was done.
I turned to face him. Seokjin was now dressed in the oversized clothes, and he looked around my house in awe.
"Your house is huge. Do you live here by yourself?" he asked, eyes wide with surprise.
I chuckled. "No, I live with my parents."
Seokjin smiled. "That's nice. Where are they?"
"My parents are surgeons," I explained quietly. "So they're rarely home."
He frowned, sensing my unease. "I'm sorry for asking."
I smiled at him. "It's okay. They give me everything I need. Plus, I have Kiba with me," I added, my mood lifting a little.
"Kiba?" Seokjin asked, confused.
I grinned. "Yeah, Kiba! Come here, boy!" I called out.
Moments later, my Shiba Inu, Kiba, came bounding down the stairs. He barked happily when he saw me, then trotted over to Seokjin.
Kiba sniffed Seokjin curiously, then started wagging his tail and licking his hand.
"I guess Kiba likes you," I said, laughing.
Seokjin smiled as Kiba licked his hand. "I like him too."
We both chuckled, but then the sound of the front door creaking open interrupted us.
My childhood friend, Jungkook, walked in carrying a bag of food.
"Hey, Nessa! My mom told me to bring over some food—" He froze mid-sentence, his eyes widening as he saw Seokjin standing in the living room.
I went silent, unsure of what to say.
Jungkook slowly looked between us, trying to process the situation.
"Who is this?" he asked, his voice filled with curiosity.
I glanced at Seokjin, unsure how to answer.
