"tyler!" josh called out from across the restaurant. at the sound of his boyfriend's voice, tyler cocked his head to the side, making eye contact with josh. "hey babe," tyler replied as he walked swiftly towards the colorful haired boy.
"welcome to la scala," josh said with a huge grin on his face. him and tyler did not normally go to restaurants that were this upscale, but he had saved up enough money for tonight. this had to be special. "how are we going to pay for this, josh?" tyler questioned, hesitation in his voice. waiters flew through the italian restaurant, carrying trays filled with risotto and pasta and seafood and other expensive looking meals. the boys' eyes darted from tray to tray, taking in all of the options.
"don't worry about it, ty, i promise i'll take care of it," josh replied, looking tyler in the eyes and squeezing his hand. tyler didn't reply, and just simply sighed in response. the boys sat down at their table, and a waitress that looked to be in her twenties greeted them. "hi, welcome to la scala, my name is ashley and i'll be your server today. may i start you guys off with something to drink?" the girl asked with a smile. both boys grinned in response, and josh replied "i say champagne for the both of us, do you agree?" tyler simply nodded towards the waitress and she smiled and walked away.
"so what is all this for?" tyler asked josh once ashley had left. "don't worry about it, babe," josh replied with a smirk. "you've been saying that all night, i'm very confused by all of this," tyler muttered, somewhat zoning out after he finished talking. he had suspicions of what might've been happening that night, but he didn't want to get his hopes up.
the rest of the dinner went on pretty normally. the food was absolutely delicious, and by the end of the meal, both boys were sighing at how full they were. ashley came back to the table, a dessert menu in hand. "may i interest you boys in some dessert?" josh took a deep breath before stating, "no thank you, not tonight, were absolutely filled to the rim. plus i already have my dessert," before winking at tyler. the brown haired boy flushed red at the statement, but ashley just giggled. "you two are really cute, just saying... i hope everything works out for you two. let me know when you're ready for the check," she stated before walking away.
tyler started to stand up to go to the bathroom, but before he could walk away, josh grabbed his hand, pulling him back into the seat. "before you leave, i want to ask you something," josh said, his voice wavering slightly, clearly nervous about what he was going to ask. tyler started to catch onto what was happening, but he just took a deep breath before responding, "what's up?"
without a further word, josh stood up out of his seat, getting down onto one knee. tyler started to tear up, watching as his boyfriend let a few tears fall as well, before he started speaking.
"tyler, when we met, i was broken and lost. i was so scared to be living, my parents were so unaccepting, and i was being abused. i was self harming and not eating and i was just not in a good place. when we met, you were a breath of fresh air. it was like i was constantly drowning and you gave me the ability to come up for air every once and a while. because of a prank call, i met my other half, i met my soulmate, i met the love of my life. i met the person who made me genuinely happy. you make me genuinely happy, tyler. i'm not lying to you when i say that. sometimes when i'm trying to sleep, i start to think about you and how lucky i am to have met you. sometimes i start to cry because of how lucky i am. we were almost a thousand miles apart, yet somehow i still met you. it was so unlikely that we would meet, but i still met you. i don't know what i've done to deserve you, but i must've been pretty great in a past life to be able to love you, to be able to have you love me. you kept me sane in a world that made me completely insane. you have made me a better person. now that i've met you, i don't ever want to let you go. i don't ever want that to happen. so, tyler robert joseph, will you marry me?"
"yes josh, of course."
people from all over the restaurant cheered and some were even crying as they watched tyler pull josh up from the ground, kissing him in the middle of the restaurant. it was like a movie, so perfect and pure.
"i love you."
"i love you too."---
