‘Hey, Evans!’ a pleasantly deep voice called. Lily Evans turned around, working hard to hide her irritation but it still showed in the tense way she held her slim shoulders, the way her green eyes flashed, and the way she impatiently pushed her long red hair out of her face.
She rolled her eyes. ‘Good morning, Potter.’ Her fellow seventh year James Potter was tall and lithe with a mischievous grin and bright hazel eyes. He had untamable messy black hair and wore round glasses that constantly slipped down the bridge of his nose. He was undeniably attractive, and also exceptionally intelligent, a fact not lost on the greater female population of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardadry
The fact that Lily had acknowledged him seemed to make James’ day. A huge grin spread across his face as he sat down next to her. It was common knowledge that he had fancied Lily since first year. Also common knowledge was the fact that Lily did not feel the same way, and unfortunately for her, both of them had recently been named the Heads of their year and were going to be forced to spend hours together because of it. Lily sighed at the thought.
‘Prongs!’ a male voice shouted cheerfully. Lily made a face, recognizing that smooth, deep voice anywhere. It belonged to Sirius Black, James’ almost-brother and partner in crime. He was an inch taller than James, with shaggy black hair that fell casually across his face and into stormy grey eyes, which, despite their colour, managed to hold warmth.
A step behind him was Remus Lupin, also tall, but quite thin with sandy hair. He had a friendly face if you could look past the scars that lined his pale skin and his chocolate eyes were always kind. They were practically Hogwarts royalty, due to their good-looks and –in James and Sirius’ cases – Quidditch ability. Along with another boy, they made up a group known as the Marauders. This other boy’s name was Peter Pettigrew and unusually, the short, watery-eyed boy was absent.
‘Padfoot! Moony!’ James called, waving at his friends. The two sat down next to the messy-haired seventh year and Lily was sure she heard her name pop up in their hushed conversation. She sighed again - she was sighing a lot this morning - and went back to her sandwich.
She had taken all of one bite when- ‘Lillian, darling!’ Sirius said loudly in her ear. She jumped, stifling a scream. ‘Didn’t see you there! Do you mind if we sit down?’
‘Yes, actually I-’ Lily gave up with a quiet growl since Sirius and James had already sat down on either side of her. Remus was across from her, and though she liked him the most of them all, she still felt boxed in. She pursed her lips and reached for her copy of The Daily Prophet, hoping to hide behind it until they left her alone. Her hand brushed the soft velvet of the seats, but not her paper.
Frowning, she looked for it and noticed it in Remus' thin hands. She decided it would be childish to snatch it back from him and instead read the article on the back.
‘Another disappearance,’ Remus said heavily, looking at his fellow Marauders. James’ face darkened and he glared at his snitch for almost a minute before throwing it at a wall. Apparently, he had lost the fun in throwing it up.
‘Stop being so morbid!’ Sirius exclaimed, throwing the snitch over Lily. Remus cleared his throat and a look of understanding crossed Sirius’ handsome face. ‘Oh, Merlin, right,’ he said with half a glance at James. A troubled expression settled itself on his face and his eyes took on a glazed, faraway look, as if he was remembering something. Lily realised this was the most subdued the Marauders had ever been around her.
‘Anyone we know?’ James said after a poignant pause. Lily was having difficulty deciphering his expression, which troubled her. As bright as she was, it had never occurred to her that James Potter might have feelings.
‘Not today,’ Remus answered, as if it was only a matter of time.
‘Well, onto brighter topics,’ James said with forced enthusiasm. ‘There’s a Hogsmeade weekend some time this year, Lils, and I was wonderin-’
‘No, Potter,’ Lily growled.
Sadness flashed across James’ expression but it was quickly smothered. A small, mischievous smile settled on his lips. ‘You’re not? That’s great! In that case-’
‘What?!’ Lily asked, thoroughly confused.
‘Well, I was asking if you were going with anyone, and since you said no, I would like to know whether you want to go with me?’ James’ hazel eyes were intent on her face, wearing a hopeful expression. How he could still be hopeful after six years of daily rejection was beyond her understanding. Sirius and Remus shared a knowing look.
‘No, Potter,’ she said, with more force than before.
‘Oh,’ James said in a completely different tone. ‘Er.. yeah... okay then.’ His hurt expression almost made Lily feel guilty, but being asked out every day since the second day of first year had worn down her patience.
Suddenly there was a knock on the door forcing Lilly to stop her plans of finding another carriage. In walked a girl about their age with bright blue hair. To her left Lily could tell Sirius was trying not to laugh. "Um could I sit with you guys everywhere else is full?" she asked her hair falling over one eye.
"Sure" Lily said before anyone else could say anything. The girl sat down next to Remus and oposite Sirius
.
"I'm Lily, that's Sirius, James, and Remus," Lily said trying to be polite.
"Oh I'm Orla, Orla Blue" Orla said.
Sirius burst and asked while gigling,
"Why is you hair so so blue?" Orla blushed held her head down and explained.
"Oh um well in my old school we were doing disguises for DADA and um my friend couldn't undo the spell she put on my hair,"
Lily moaned "You're so lucky we're doing that in DADA this year,"

Siruis's POV
James head had dropped after the billionth rejection from Lily seriously this girl was hard. Anyone could see James was desperate Sirius thought.
Suddenly there was a knock on the door Sirius turned his head to see who it was hoping it wasn't Malfoy coming to be a prat again. Much to his surprise it was a girl with bright blue hair standing at the compartment door.
He stared at her ocean blue eyes and he felt like he was falling. Sirius was pulled out of her eyes by her asking
"Um could I sit with you guys everywhere else is full?" she asked, her hair falling over one eye.
"Sure" Lily had said . The girl sat down next to Remus and opposite himself.
.
"I'm Lily, that's Sirius, James, and Remus," Lily said still leaving Sirius not being able to say anything.
"Oh I'm Orla Blue" the girl said.
Sirius couldn't take it anymore and burst out laughing only just managing to stay up right. He could just squeeze out,
"Why is you hair so so blue?"
Orla blushed held her head down and explained
"Oh um well in my old school we were doing disguises for DADA and um my friend couldn't undo the spell she put on my hair,"
Lily moaned "You're so lucky we're doing that in DADA this year,"
Once Sirius pulled himself together and looked at Lily.
"Why are you so nerdy?" he said harmfully. Lily slapped him and that's pretty much how the train ride went.
