Five minutes after pulling off from in front the house Dinah had to pull over. The tears that once threatened to fall had been clouding her eyes and falling uncontrollably. She took a few deep breaths and grabbed a napkin from over head to wipe her eyes. Looking into the rear view mirror, three sets of brown eyes were looking back at her.

"Momma, you okay?" Chris asked really concerned about his mother and stepmother's relationship.

"Yeah Chris, I'm fine." She offered a small smile in effort to try to reassure him.

"Mommy, why you crying, mommy?" Kori perched up and tried to reach for her but Nani set her back.

"Mommy's sad Kori" Nani sighed.

"Yea, mommy's a little sad right now, but you know what makes me feel better?" Dinah sniffled and wiped her eyes with the backs of her hands.

"Candy! I like candy mommy."

"I like candy too Kori, but it's you three. You kids always make me feel better okay. So don't worry, I'm fine."

"You promise?" Chris asked with his pinky raised. For as long as he could remember, he and Dinah had been making pinky promises to each other and although he had slipped up once or twice, Dinah had never broken a pinky promise and he didn't want her to start now.

"I promise." Dinah linked their fingers and allowed Nani and Kori to get on it. "Now let's go before we're late. You and your dad have a bunch of fun, manly stuff to do."

"You say it like you don't know what boys do. Don't you have like a billion brothers and uncles?" Chris mocked and flashed a smile, one that reminded Dinah of her wife and she rolled her eyes jokingly at him.

"I actually have more sisters than brothers but so what, just because I can get down and dirty with the boys and whip both you and Masi's ass in all sports doesn't mean I'm properly dressed to do that with you today." She smiled at him causing the children to laugh.

Fastening her seat belt again, she pulled off for the second time and continued in the direction of Masi's house. The drive wasn't long today thanks to the fact that there was no traffic. They might've spent 15 or 20 minutes driving before they pulled up in front of the house. Masi had just opened the front door and began walking towards the car as Dinah and Chris got out.

"I'll see you later tonight...right, momma?" Chris asked as he gave Dinah a hug.

"I don't know Chris." Dinah spoke softly as she squatted to be eye level with him.

"Well why not?"

"I don't know if it's best for me go back home tonight, I'm sorry."

"Well if you don't come home tonight, then I'm not talking to you." The little boy huffed stomping his foot. He wasn't known for throwing many temper tantrums but this was the start of one and the look on his face let Dinah know he wasn't gonna let this one slide.

"I can't believe you're giving me an ultimatum."

"Eww, I don't eat tomatoes."

"Not a tomato, an ultimatum."

"What's that?"

"It's complicated; it just means you're giving me a really tough choice."

"Well, then I'm giving you all the tomatoes ever, just promise me you'll be at the house when I get back momma. Promise."

"Christopher," she sighed.

"No, promise! Promise me!" he whined some more stopping his feet again and crossing his arms as he puffed out his chest. "You have to promise!"
