Chapter Twenty-Seven
Before we could try to leave I was called to the office. "Oh, what now." I rolled my eyes.
"I'll wait here," Abi said sitting on a bench.
"Yeah, we'll see you when they release you."
"Okay, but my car only seats two, you'll have to squish."
"Put it on auto and you can sit in my lap instead." Kyle leaned over to kiss me before I headed for the office.
I glanced through the window before walking in.
Wait, that's not right... I opened the door, "Dad? What are you doing here?"
"Hey, Jr, I'm here to help you with the crowd."
"So, why are we in the office? And where is principal harrison?"
"He stepped out. Surprise meeting."
"Dad--" I laughed. "You know you can be seen now too? No more wild goose chases are needed."
He shrugged, "Old habits. How was your day?"
"For the most part good."
"Good. Here," he handed me a hoody and some sunglasses.
"I highly doubt this disguise will work in hawaii."
"It still makes for lousy photos so they can't make money off your face." He tossed me a new set of keys.
"And these are?"
"The jeep and McLaren are the back of the school, I'll take the Mc, you and your friends can take the jeep. If you aren't in public I want Abi with you and Kyle at all times."
I rolled my eyes.
"I'm serious, Toni, do it for your old man's heart."
"Fine, fine, playboy."
He gave an exaggerated sigh.
I laughed, "We were all going to hang out anyway, I'll see you tonight."
"Good," He gave me a hug before heading for the door.
I went back to Kyle and Abs and said, "Cars out back of the cafeteria."
"WHat did Harrison want?"
"It was actually my dad," I smiled.
"And he didn't even say hi," Abi tsked.
"Is your car a transformer too, because that's a Jeep outside."
"Dad left it so we'd all fit."
"Nice guy, that Tony," Abi nodded
"We should run so we aren't spotted."
.
"So where to?"
"Not my house," Abi volunteered.
"Fine, but I do need to go over and see everyone soon."
"That's fine, no new people when the house is a mess."
I laughed, "Well, that eaves the house riddled with parents or yours Kyle."
"Uh, no new people when the apartment is a mess?"
"Okay, so you're down to meet my parents then?"
"You know, on second thought I'm sure it's not that bad."
****
"If you think this is a mess, you're never allowed to come over to my house."
"I honestly didn't know what condition it would be in."
"How do you not know how you left your own apartment?" I asked with a laugh.
"I live with my brother and another roomate. He isn't usually here, I swear he just uses the place for storage, but when he is here he trashes the place and leaves again."
Abi squinted at him, "Do I know him?"
"I don't know who you know!"
"Fair enough. So what are we going to do tonight?"
"Well, I have beer and movies?"
"I dig you," I said with a smile.

Iron Man blasted from my phone, waking me up. "Ah, fuck." I reached for the phone and saw a video request. "That's new." I looked around and made sure everyone was dressed before answering. "Hey, dad, we all fell asleep last night."
He frowned, "Let me see abi."
I turned the phone, "See, no funny business occurred."
"Will you call to tell me you aren't coming home next time?"
"You never used to act this crazy dad, chill. I'll see you tonight, gotta get ready for school."
"Wear the sweatshirt."
"Why?"
"Toni, if they get pictures of you two days in a row in the same clothes you know what they'll think."
"I thought Starks don't care about what people think."
"That doesn't mean we can't try to prevent it. Your mom taught me that."
"Yeah, and you never listened."
"But you will?"
I sighed, "Sure, dad, but I'm not loving your new attitude."
"I'm sure you aren't, kid, but I do have seventeen years of parenting to make up for."
I nodded, "I'll see you tonight, Dad."
"It's because I love you, you know."
"I know, I love you too," I said before hanging up.
Kye pulled me back to lay beside him. "We should skip today."
I closed my eyes and sighed, "I can't. It would look bad and Dad would find out."
"Well... Now you can't say I didn't try," he smirked.
"Ass."
He shrugged, "Should we wake Abi?"
"I'm already awake, dummy," she mumbled.
"Abi is a light sleeper, but also hell to wake up. It makes for an interesting combination... Who's ready for school?!"
"Not me." Abi rolled over.
