I was jolted awake by screaming.
I looked around startled and confused, only to see blood smeared on the windows. The scream was coming from a young woman on the ground, as she clutched to her childs dead figure. My stomch churned with horror as I realised that the bus had been attacked while I was asleep.
'Daemon?' I asked, astonished that he hadn't woken me up.
When I was replied with silence, I finally registered the aching coldness in my chest.
Why couldn't I feel him?
"Help! Someone, please! Help my son!" The young woman screamed.
I looked back to her and saw her pretty yellow dress stained with her sons blood. The kid couldn't be older than seven. Half of his throat was torn apart, his eyes were open and lifeless. It must have been Vampires.
I stood up and grabbed my bag, ready to run for the open door, when I saw something move at the front of the bus.
The Vampire was still aboard.
He was covered in blood, his face, his eyes, all drenched. Disgust and fear slithered its way up my spine as I watched in horror, as he wiped his mouth with the back of his hand, then exposed his canines to the poor terrified woman. She clutched her son tighter to her chest as she screamed at him.
Suddenly he was on her, shoving the child out of the way and tearing into her throat.
I clutched my mouth to stop from screaming. I had to get out of here, but my body wasn't responding. All I could do was stay crouched near the ground, hiding behind the seat.
'Daemon, help me!' I screeched in my head.
My terror must have awoken him somehow, as that lonely cold feeling in my chest disappeared and his voice filled my head.
"Maddie?" He asked skeptically.
The Vampire was almost finished with her now, I could her his disgusting slurping noises as he drunk her dry. I didn't feel like a fifteen year old anymore, I felt like a four year old, wanting to cry and run to my mummy.
"Maddie, listen to me, you need to crawl under the seats okay? He's minutes away from stopping and searching for more blood. Move as quickly and as quietly as possible. Do it now!" He thundered.
Holding in my sobs, I moved to slide under the seats. I hated myself for sitting in the back, why did I have to be so far away from the door?
The ground under the plain grey seats were dirty and disgusting. I tried to stop myself from retching as I put my hand in some blood. I kept sliding, stopping everytime I heard the Vampire take a break. Daemon was silently egging me on, trying to give me as much strength, and focus as he could.
But then the Vampire stopped feeding.
I had just reached halfway when he sighed and stood up, making me freeze. I stopped everything. Moving, breathing, hell if I could stop my thundering heart I would have.
"Well Marvin, I think you did a good job." The Vampire said, obviously talking to himself. "Christian isn't going to find out, since there are no survivors. For all the public knows is that the bus went missing." He mumbled.
"Hush Madison." Daemon said gently.
"Yes, I can hear Christian now, 'Well done Marvin! I'm proud.'" He stated, kicking bodies out of his way as he wandered down the isle. He kicked a body in my direction, and it just had to be the young womans child. His hazel eyes were open wide, his wound wasn't bleeding, damn the Vampire really did drain them of everything.
