Madeline's p.o.v

The day i truly understand him will be the day ill be at peace with myself.

after his confession? we decided to head out, not a word has been said between the two.

it wasn't an uncomfortable silence but it wasn't very nice either.

why did this vamp have to show up and mess up my head even more than it already was? i was some what fine ready to start a new life away from all this bull, but no here comes Mr. i want to play lifesaver and meddle with your head till you wish you were dead so i can have some fun...

well that was like a slap in the face now wasn't it. 

what if this all just a game to him? did he really mean what he said yesterday or was it just an act to get me to follow him and be a part of his game?

oh my god i'm so stupid how could i have trusted this vamp so easily without even knowing him properly.

i need to get away from him how do i know hes actually going to take me to the borders and not somewhere else where they'll suck my blood or worse?

"why'd you stop we still have a while to go if we wanna make it before sundown" his voice made me sick how he actually thinks i believe him. 

i cant let him know i know about his true intentions. i'll just play along till i find a way to run away from him too.

"uhm i just thought i uhm smelled someone but it was just a squirrel" i said pretending to sniff the air.

"weird i didn't smell anything" he said starting to sniff the air too. 

i guess he realized there wasn't anything at all and turned around starting to walk again.

"ill give you that pup you wolves have an amazing sense of smell"

not sure of what to say i just mumbled a simple 'thanks' and followed behind him occasionally looking around to see if there was a way out of his grasp.

"looks like your'e stuck again maddy what are you gonna do now? run back to daddy?"

oh god just when i thought things couldn't get any worse.

Darrell just had to get into my thoughts.

i hadn't realized that Cody stopped till i bumped into him.

"weren't you just saying how we cant st-" 

"there's someone following us" he whispered.

he pushed me behind him while i tried to pick up a scent or noise.

nothing.

"are you sure?"i asked looking at him cautiously. 

"yeah at first i thought it was your scent but i caught something else like..."

"like what Cody?" i asked scared.

"like death."

fuck. 

"we need to go"

that's when i smelled it.

the smell of a cheap cologne, sweat and smoke.

Darrell.

"NOW!" Cody screamed while i just stood there shocked.

once i heard the thumping sound of paws stomping toward us i grabbed Cody's hand and began to run.

"who's faster vamps or wolves?" i asked breathing hard.

"Madeline this isn't a competition." he growled at me.

"i just wanna know so we can out run them, right now one of us is being slowed down by the other if you're faster carry me and if i'm faster i'll turn and you can get on me." i rushed feeling out of breathe.

"if you wanted me to carry you, you should've just said so" he smirked.

i rolled my eyes about to say a comeback but felt Cody pick me up. 

i was right i was slowing him down.

he ran with this amazing speed that made me dizzy.

i looked back and saw the pack slowly fade into the woods. 

i sighed in relief. 

maybe Cody isn't lying. 

"i wont let them get to you" he said out of breathe.

for the first time in forever i felt safe.

i'm back !x i haven't updated because i was busy with school but i'm on vacations now and i know my chapters have been short and shitty but i will spend more time on this book now so thank you for being patient with me
