Joey's part!
Today was a special day for many reasons. We were leaving for New York, it was Layla's birthday, and I was planning on asking Layla to travel with me. Of course, she was already going with Thomas, but maybe we could work something out. She had no idea how much I hated her hanging around Thomas so much. I wasn't jealous, really. I just didn't like the idea of it all. I didn't want her to get hurt, or lose herself to him. I didn't want him near her. Okay, maybe I was jealous, but only because he spent more time with her than me. I saw him being all friendly with Ethan, and I'm sure its only so he could get closer to Layla.
"Joey, Layla's here," Thomas said poking his head in my room. I smiled to myself and grabbed her gift off of my dresser.
"I'm coming," I said following him downstairs to the living room. Layla was sitting on the couch talking to my dad. They were deep in conversation, talking about sports or something. I cleared my throat. She looked at me and smiled. I sat down next to her and smiled back.
"Hi, Joey," she said.
"Happy birthday beautiful," I replied kissing her lightly on the lips. "I got you something."
She shook her head. "No you didn't." She didn't like the idea of gift giving, unless she was the one doing it. I sighed.
"Layla, remember when we met and I took you to meet my grandparents? And I told you I was going to get you something?" She nodded. "You said you would take it, which means you have to take it," I finished.
"It's nothing big, is it?" she asked, looking at the box in my hands. I grinned.
"Layla, just open it," I said. I put it in her hand and waited. She took a deep breath and took off the top.
"Oh my goodness," she mumbled with a smile.
"Do you like it? I picked it out myself," I said. When I saw it, I thought of her. I had to buy it. It was a gold necklace, shaped like a pinwheel.
She nodded. "I think I'm going to cry."
"No, don't do that," I said hugging her. She laughed shakily.
"Joey, this is to much," she whispered. "You could've just given me a card or some chocolate or something. Why this?"
"Because it's your birthday and it reminded me of you. I couldn't resist. It's beautiful, like you."
"That was so cheesy yet so sweet." she said with a giggle. "Will you help me put it on?"
"Of course I will." I took it from her and she held up her hair. I fastened it around her neck and she turned back towards me.
"Thank you, Joey. I'll never take it off," she said hugging me tightly. I looked at my dad who was smilng. He gave me a thumbs up and laughed. She pulled back.
"We better get going if we want to get a good hotel room. I'm not sleeping with bedbugs," she complained. I laughed.
"We won't be sleeping with bugs, unless you count Thomas," I teased. Thomas rolled his eyes and walked out of the room.
"You're bringing something to wear to the wedding, right?" she asked hopefully. I was her date after all. If I didn't look amazing, it would ruin her night.
"Yes I am bringing my outfit that I wore to my junior prom," I told her.
"Really? Me too," she replied. She rolled the charm on her necklace between her fingers. "This really is beautiful," she said kissing me on the cheek. "Thank you."
"You already said that," I pointed out.
"I know, but it's so amazing. Anyways, my stuff is in my moms car which I am driving. She's going with Jack and Sophie is waiting outside in the car. She's going with me. Anyone else going with me?" she asked looking from me to Thomas who had just walked back into the room.
