Chapter 11 Just a Kiss

I stared at Caden, too shocked to move. Was he really asking me to the prom? I racked my brain for a date, and realized it was April. Spring Break started next week, and the Saturday after we got back was Prom. My hand flew up to my opened mouth. Had time really flew by that fast? Time was passing by more quickly each day, and with each passing second I was losing precious time with Caden. He was leaving in June. It was almost the end of April.

I was so caught up in my own thoughts that I had forgotten of the boy still standing in front of me, nervously awaiting an answer. I was too busy thinking of life- how everything had changed so quickly. It'd been-what?- like two weeks we had been dating. But that has been enough to fall even more deeply in love with him.  Could it all really be disappearing in just a month's time?

I was shaken from my thoughts when Caden coughed nervously. I moved my gaze up to meet his, staring into his eyes. He nervously pulled the collar of his shirt away from his neck, then let it go. "Um, are you going to, um,  answer that?" he stuttered.

I smiled at his cuteness. I decided to tease him. "I don't have a pen..." I sighed dramatically, as if it was a waste of time. He had an anxious expression come to his face as he frantically searched his pockets for a pen, but came up short. He looked up sheepishly.

I sighed again. "That's alright." I said. Then I took the paper and carefully folded it, until it formed a perfect circle around my answer. Then, I walked slowly right to Caden, and wrapped my arms around him, and slipped my hands into his back pockets, dropping the paper into it. Then I looked up at his face. "Do you really need to ask?" I whispered against his lips, standing on my tip toes.

All the nerves and anxiety left his expression and he smiled bigger than I'd ever seen. He wrapped his arms around me in a giant hug and spun me around and around while I giggled endlessly.

When he finally set me down, we both laid in the grassy meadow. He turned to look at me at the same time I turned to look at him. "Yes, I'll go to prom with you." I spoke my answer.

He grinned again, and rolled over so he was half on top of me as he kissed me slowly and softly. I responded immediately. How was I going to live without this when he was gone?

When he pulled away, he didn't move, just stayed there, staring at me, and I, him. Then, he finally spoke. "I love you, Jeny." he said, going in to kiss me again. I just smiled against his lips.

Later that day, Caden drove me home from school. Whoever it was that had beat him up (I still had yet to find out) and had told him to stay away from me, must've been long gone from Caden's mind. Caden acted exactly as he had before the incident- he held me in public, kissed me whenever he wanted, drove me to and from school. He did whatever he wanted to. He didn't have a care in the world.

But I did.

I feared every day since Friday that whoever it was that had hurt him would come back. That they would hurt me, or worse, hurt Caden again. I couldn't have that happening. Maybe it was good that

Caden could get away from them when he moved. That seemed to be one of the few good things. Actually, now that I think about it, there are a lot of good things about Caden moving. He'll get to live his dreams, perform pretty  much everywhere, meet new people, hang with his band, get famous, go to California... the only con of him moving seemed to be that he would be leaving me behind. After he was gone, I would carry out the summer here, then start my senior year. Yes, I was 18, but I had gotten held back in the third grade. Then after senior year, I'd be going off to college, or wherever Caden was. We hadn't talked about him leaving, and in all honesty, I didn't want to. I didn't want to face it until it was thrown in our faces.

I was shaken from my thoughts when Caden pulled up at my house. I turned my gaze to his face to smile at him and kiss him goodbye, but his expression stopped me short. He was ghostly pale, with a look in his eye I didn't recognize. "Caden?" I questioned. He turned to look at me. "What's wrong?"

"Mike's home." he said quietly.

My jaw dropped open and I immediately turned my head to the driveway. Sure enough, his car was parked there. I turned back to Caden slowly, giving him a small smile.

"It'll be fine, Caden," I reassured. "I'll be fine."

We both got out of the car and he led me to the door, and he turned to look at me. "He won't hurt me Caden." I said, putting my hand on his cheek. He leaned into my hand and gave me a sad smile. He pulled my hand away and kissed my palm, using my hand to tug me closer to him.

"Can I kiss you?" he whispered, his breath hitting me in my face.

"I..." I seemed to have lost my train of thought. "I... I'm not sure that's a good idea," I said, looking to the window as if I expected Mike to jump through them at any minute and push Caden away.

"Please?" he begged. I looked back into his eyes and slowly nodded. "Just a kiss." I said quietly.

He slowly pressed his lips against mine and I wrapped my arms around his neck. It was a simple kiss, the kind that can only be shared between two people who love each other.

When we pulled away, he placed his forehead against mine. "Call me later, Jeny." he said breathlessly.

I nodded in response, my dazed mind unable to come up with a response that wouldn't end up embarrassing me.

He cracked a smile and kiss me one last time before heading down the stairs and to his car. I turned to the door, and took a deep breath, trying to prepare myself for whatever mood Mike could be in.

"Hey Jeny!" I heard Caden call out from behind me. I turned towards him. he was seated in his car, with the passenger side window rolled down so he could yell through it. "I love you!" he called out, as he drove away.

I smiled to myself, and those words gave me the strength to open the door, and face my fear.

Yeah, so Mike's  back! And with a surprise ;) OOOooooohhhhhHHHhhh! ;) Anyway, GIVE ME IDEAS FOR THEMES FOR THE PROM!!!!!!!!!!! PLEASE!!!! :D
