"Jen, I can't take your song." "Why not?" I roll on top of him and tickle him. Then I realize how close we are. And my breathing speeds up~

Chapter 2 Almost Perfect

I look up to his eyes, scared to see what emotion is lying beyond them. His blue eyes always held some emotion. He was easy to read, if you knew what emotion he should be feeling. Not to sound poetic or whatever, but sometimes I felt like his blue eyes were as deep as the ocean and I was stuck as sea and I would never return. Told you, poetic. God, I'm going soft.

When I looked up, I was surprised to see Caden staring at my lips. Could he- No. I cut that thought off as soon as it came. Everyone knows how bad it'll get if he likes me! Not bad for me... but that's not the point!! If he likes me, he'll want to choose me over his band, and I can't ruin his life like that. But I couldn't help myself. I brought my eyes down to his lips too and before I knew what was happening we were both slowly leaning towards each other.

It could've been perfect. Agh, who am I kidding? It WOULD'VE been perfect. I swear, I could already picture myself hearing the ringing bells, seeing the doves fly, feeling sparks, seeing fireworks explode around our heads.

Yes, readers, it would've been perfect. It all would've happened. My dreams would finally come true. But the doorbell rang.

I guess Caden seemed to come to his senses as he instantly met my gaze. I sighed mentally and got off him. I gave him a look that asked, 'Do I look decent?' and he mouthed back, 'You're beautiful' and chuckled as I blushed.

I ran down the stairs and yanked open the door, only to be pushed a side with a snarky "Move." Wait a minute... THIS IS MY HOUSE!

"Hey!" I yelled to the blonde haired girl going up the stairs. She turned around and smirked. Oh God. It was Lucy. She had an insane crush on Caden. She was always nice to him, but when he wasn't looking she was a total- you get it. Bad word. I refuse to say it. I'm on a 'no-cussing' diet. Caden never told me why he broke up with her. I mean, why would he? She blonde, super pretty, with curves in just the right places, high cheekbones, fainted red lips, blonde, pretty-did I mention she's pretty? And blonde? Aside from the fact that she dresses like a slut, and wears too much makeup, she was very pretty. Too bad she had an ugly personality. Not that Caden ever knew-or ever will.

"Aw. I'm sorry," She said in a voice that clearly stated that she wasn't sorry. "Am I being rude?"

So I may have mentioned earlier that I'm good with comebacks, well I actually keep them all to myself. I never actually say anything comeback-y. So you can imagine that I made no snide comment as she continued walking up the stairs, to my room. I bit my cheek to stop all the comebacks coming out of my mouth and closed the front door.

I debated whether or not to stay up here, thinking that it would be the right thing to do but deciding against it as I realized MY STUFF IS UP THERE!!

I angrily stomped up the stairs, heading to my room when I heard them arguing.

"If you loved me as much as you say you did you would've stayed away from her!" a voice yelled. Gross. Lucy.

"And if you ACTUALLY loved me, you would've known that I wouldn't cheat on you! And you would've never asked me to stay away from her in the first place!" came Caden's voice from behind the door.

"Whatever."

It took me a while to realize that the 'whatever' meant Lucy was leaving and heading towards where I was. It was too late now.

She came out and glared at me. "What are you doing here Eugene?"

See, there was this guy named Eugene (obviously) and everyone avoided him because he was your complete nerd.

Seriously, though he was actually very cute. I started to like him a little (though not as much as Caden) and decided to give him my first kiss. He liked me and still had his too so when I went to kiss him, Lucy turned up, and started mocking us, so he just kissed my cheek and smiled. We're still friends now. His new name is Brian and he's happily dating Madison now. He cleaned up his whole nerdy look too. He's actually very attractive and now very popular. Though needless to say, I still hold on to my precious first kiss.

I narrowed my eyes at her pointedly. "This... is... my... house..." I said slowly, putting emphasis, as if I were talking to a toddler.

She glared at me and pushed me into the wall, "I'm going to make your life a living hell." then she stalked off.

"It's really okay if you like me Lucy! Just know I'm actually not a lesbian! And certainly not for you. So please stop flirting with me." I said.

Oh s- crap. Did I just say that put loud? By the look on Lucy's face, I did. She began to move towards me when Caden stepped out of nowhere and she scuttled away and I waited till I heard the door shut to breath again.

"When she said Eugene, was she referring to your first kiss Eugene?" Caden asked, staring deeply into my eyes.

"Oh, haha," I laughed nervously. "Actually, we, um, we, uh, weneverkissedandI'mstillakissvirgin." I said really fast.

He looked confused, a line forming between his brow, and I had the sudden urge to flatten it out. He was so sexy. Jeez, I have issues.

"A kiss virgin?" he asked, a glint in his eye. "We can take care of that easily." he took a step towards me. I stepped back. "Uh, I really don't want to, uh, give my, um, first, um, kiss to just anyone." I mumbled on and on and started rambling. "It's just I don't want to think for the rest my life if I completely wasted my first kiss on someone I don't end up with. I mean...... Why are you looking at me like that?" I blushed. Gah, sometimes I hate his affect on me. He was staring at my lips again. I decided to take a chance. Screw trying to get over him so he won't have to choose between me and his band.

"You know you can kiss me if you want to." I find myself saying. I saw surprise and shock flit through his eyes as he took it all in. Then he looked back to my lips.

"I want to." Caden said, put his hands on the wall either side of my face. He was leaning in and so was I. I can't believe he wants to kiss me! Does that mean he likes me? Our lips almost brushed when the front door could be heard opening downstairs. We pulled away as we heard a shout, "Yo Jen! I'm home."

It was Mike. My brother. He hated Caden.

Oh, how almost perfect this day is.

I watched Caden's figure retreating to my room to crawl out of my window. He turned to me, and smiled, with some unknown emotion playing in his wyes. He waved once before climbing down my window and to the ground.

This is how my life would always be. Almost perfect. Because I wouldn't have Caden's love, only his friendship.

But today, I realized I'm okay with almost perfect.

For now.
