"I spy something... green," Calum declared before taking another lick of his strawberry Popsicle that was already starting to melt in the sweltering summer heat.

"The grass," I guess with minimal enthusiasm, already bored of this stupid game. I mean, five year olds play I spy.

"Nope," Calum had a smug little smile as he sucked on his Popsicle some more. The red juice was dripping all over my porch. I thought of how my mum would yell at me to clean up the mess as soon as Calum finally left that afternoon, as if him eating us out of house and home every day was my fault.

"Okay, the trees," I tried again. I took all I had not to roll my eyes at myself for playing along.

"Negative," Calum slurped up the last of his Popsicle. I was silently thankful.

"I give up," I told him.

"Oh c'mon mate, you've only had two guesses thus far!" he said more enthusiastically than I thought a game of I spy deserved.

"Thus?" I quirked an eyebrow at the skinny brunette.

He shrugged, "I've been trying to sound smarter lately. Maybe if I practice all summer I'll be better in school this next year."

"Yeah, okay. Listen dude, I really don't want to do this. I don't want to be outside. Want to go inside and play some FIFA?" I asked hopefully.

"No Michael that's all we ever do. Why don't you ever wanna go out on adventure or something? We could ride our bikes to Luke's house in the next neighborhood over. How about that?"

Well that came out of nowhere. I do to do other things besides video games! "Ugh, no I hate that guy. He annoys the piss out of me." Luke is Calum's other friend at school who he hangs out with when I'm in a bad mood an ignore him. Luke is the zenith of immaturity, and Calum knows it. He only hangs out with that guy to piss me off, and the wort part is that it works.

"Sure sure, it's totally not because you don't know how to ride a bike," Calum gave me a smug little smile. "I'm going in to get another Popsicle, want one?"

"I do to know how to ride a bike! And no more Popsicles! You literally eat like a whole box every day!" I chased after him into the house.

"Maybe that's all for the better. It's not like you need any extra food sitting around anyway," Calum turned around and poked me in the stomach. Right in the uh... squishy part. I felt my face turn red with anger and embarrassment.

"AND WHAT IS THAT SUPPOSED TO MEAN?" I shouted as I slammed the front door behind both of us.

"Calm down mate, take a joke," Calum grinned as he opened up our freezer, knowing that he had successfully made me angry. "You're all out of red," he pouted like a baby as he begrudgingly grabbed a blue. "So are you coming with me to Luke's house or not."

I folded my arms and glared at him. Rolling my eyes, I said "hand me a green one."

"Calum slow the fuck down! This is a steep hill!" I panted as I pressed my feet down hard on the pedals and tried to keep up with the skinny, athletic boy.

"Switch gears dumbass! What do you think the lower gears are for?!" Calum shouted at me over his shoulder as he reached the crest of the hill and I watched him  disappear to the other side. I grunted and felt the sweat roll down my cheek as I slowly but surely did the same. I did not however switch gears. I... don't actually know how.

"Follow me this way!" Calum yelled to me from the bottom of the hill as I watched him make a sharp right turn and disappear around the corner.

Finally, after what seemed like forever, I caught up to Calum and we rolled in to Luke's driveway together. His older brother Jack was playing in the front yard with a few of his friends, all of whom Calum and I ignored. The older Hemmings' were even more obnoxious than Luke.

"Ok Michael, you can't be rude to him. Remember, you chose to come here with me," Calum reprimanded me.

"Pssh, don't give me that shit. You basically dragged me here. What else am I supposed to do?" I countered.

"Stay home and be lonely like you usually are when I'm not there to bug you," he grinned. I felt the anger surge again.

"Fine, then I'm going home to do that then. I can tolerate you, but not that Luke kid. Final Fantasy is better than both of you shitheads anyway" I went and picked up my bike again, mounted it, and prepared to ride away before I heard Calum call one more thing after me.

"Have fun playing by yourself Mikey, as always. This is why you have no friends besides me, you freak!"

I was about halfway back to my house and I was still trying to get what Calum said out of my head. It' so not true. I don't have any other people that I hang out with because no one likes the same things I do. No one understands me, really. It's by choice and nothing else.

While I was thinking about all of this, I was all wrapped up in my head so I almost got my purple-haired ass knocked on the asphalt when this pink blur sped past me. I had to stop and put my foot down in order to keep from falling over.

"Hey! Watch where-" I looked in the direction that the speeding object went and saw that it was the pink girl. The one who rides her bike by my house everyday. I must've missed her ride by there this afternoon since Calum and I rode to Luke's house. But I saw her now. That day, I may have asked what her name was, why she dressed in all pink, even her helmet, and why she rode her bike so far and so fast every single day, even when it rains. But I didn't because she was already about two more blocks down the street by the time that all of those questions even ran through my head. By the time that I had finished just staring at the mystery that was the pink girl.

And so, instead, I did what I always do. I went home, went to my room, closed the door, and played video games.
