// Unfortunately, I felt this chapter was going to be too long and split it into two. I'm dying for you guys to read partII, it's good!

The next day, I had set out a list of plans that I wanted completed by the end of the day and Asher was the first tick that I wanted to check off. Gathering all the confidence I had left in myself, I trudged up to his door step and knocked three times. Thump, thump, thump. The beat of my knocks matched how hard and fast my heart was racing, my hands cold and clammy hands were shaking slightly from nerves. I could hear cat barking, loudly, his footsteps reverberating on the hardwood floors.

It felt like an eternity before someone finally answered when really it was probably around thirty-seconds. I was greeted by Asher's mums, smiling face. She seemed surprised that I was at her doorstep. Maybe she knew Asher and I are fighting? Then her gaze travelled straight to my chin and I had to suppress a sigh. I know, it was hideous.

"A.J, what can I do for you?"

"Hey, Mrs Whitmore, I was just wondering if Asher was home?" Her face turned more surprised if possible at my question. Suddenly self-conscious, I shifted from foot to foot.

"He's not home." She told me confused. "He's gone out to train... I thought you'd know that?" She gave a wry smile.

"Heck, I thought you'd be there, considering he can't seem to stop praising you and your brother non-stop." I blushed and looked down at my feet. I didn't think he'd actually talk about me to his parents. To say I was bummed that he wasn't here was an understatement. He was already progressing on without me. My brain was nagging at who he was training with? Alex was helping his friend move into his new apartment and I know for a fact the football team's official practice is tomorrow.

"Oh." Was all I muttered out, stupidly. I rubbed my arms, dejected. "Do you know when he'll be back?" I ask.

"Oh, I don't know sweetie, I don't think it'd be anytime soon. I think he said something like ten." She looked at me curiously, like she was gazing into my soul or something, which made me squirm even more. I looked away.

"Do you want me to let him know you dropped by?" She inquired.

"No!" I blurted out before I could stop myself. "I mean, no it's fine. I'll just be back later then if that's okay." I laugh nervously. Stop acting so shady, A.J. Jeez, I think to myself.

"That's fine, A.J." She spoke softly, trying to soothe my frazzled nerves. "Is everything okay between the two of you?" Now she looked concerned, great. I didn't want to lie to his mother, but at the same time I didn't want to pour my heart out to her either, that would just be awkward.

"I hope so!" I say, trying to appear sunny. She seems to buy it for now and relaxes a little bit. She lets out a small chuckle.

"Okay, well don't be a stranger, sweetie." She winked.

"I won't. See you later." I keep the fake smile plastered to my face until she closes the door. I sigh and twirl around, walking back down the drive again.

Guess I'll just have to move on to the second thing on my list, buying stuff for school, which was about to start in a couple of days. I invited Scarlett to join me. She was more than happy to leave her house and hang out with someone other than Jay for a change. I walked down to her house in the sweltering heat. It was times like this I missed having Asher as a friend, so I could use his car. When I reached Scarlett's house she seemed surprised to that I didn't have the car with me.

"Hey, you ready to go?" I ask her, trying to hide my breathlessness for her. I didn't want her to know how unfit I was.

"Yeah, I just gotta grab my purse." She hollered, before running back inside and returning a few seconds later. We walked side by side in silence for a while, it was nice. I liked that you could have friendship where you could just enjoy a nice silence and it wasn't awkward.
