"You nervous?" Adam asks, taking Tim by the hand as they drove to the Lundquist house for Tim's first day of class."I don't know what that means." Tim says as he looks down at their hands. "What if I do something ... wrong? Will I get in trouble?"
"No, honey. You won't get into trouble. Their job is you teach you." Adam smiles. "You just listen to what they have to say. Alright?"
Adam pulls up into the driveway.
"Okay." Tim says quietly. "Can you come ... with me?"
"No, Babe, I can't." Adam gives him a sad smile. "You'll be fine."
Tim rubs his hands on his legs as he gives Adam a sad look.
Adam could tell that he was scared. "You'll have fun, Sweetheart. You'll learn a bunch of new things."
"You will come after me won't you?" Tim asks.
"Of course I will." Adam smiles.
"I'll ... m.. miss you." Tim says with a shaky voice as he sees Rob open the door of his house.
"I'll miss you too, Baby." Adam says as he leans over the console and places a kiss on Tim's cheek. "I'll be back at 2:30 to pick you up."
Tim bites his bottom lip as he opens the car door to get out.
"Good morning, Tim." Rob calls from his front porch.
"Uh, Tim?" Adam calls from inside the car.
"What?" Tim asks looking back inside the car.
"Uh, don't kiss him on the forehead, okay? That's just for me and you." Adam smiles.
"Okay." Tim smiles as he closes the car door.
Adam watches as Tim walks slowly toward the house. He could feel a lump coming up in his throat. Now he knows how moms feel dropping off their children off at school for the first time. He watches until Tim walks up on the porch. Rob smiles as he puts an arm around his shoulder. Tim turns and gives Adam a small wave as Rob leads him into the house.
Adam sighs and wipes a tear before it had time to escape. He backs out of the driveway and heads home with a heavy heart.
"Well, how'd it go?" Chance asks as Adam comes into the house.
"Chance, he looked so sad. You could tell that he was scared." Adam says as he plops down on the couch beside his roommate.
"He'll be fine, Adam." Chance smiles. "This is all so new to him, of course he's gonna be scared. He'll get use to it."
"I know. It's just that... I miss him." Adam says as he gives a heavy sigh.
"He hasn't even been gone an hour yet." Austin laughs.
"I know. I just hope he's alright." Adam says as he gets up to get him something to drink. "What if he gets hungry?"
"Uh, Adam, they'll feed him. Don't worry." Chance laughs.
"Are you going to act this way every day?" Austin says with furrowed brows.
"Uh, no." Adam says while rolling his eyes.
"Well, you two have been almost inseparable since the day we found him. So naturally you're going to miss him." Chance says. "Maybe if you watch a movie or take a nap or something, it'll help pass the time until you go pick him up."
Adam sighs as he picks up the tv remote. "It's gonna be a long day." He grumbles.
~~~
"This is really good." Tim says as he takes another bite from the sandwich that Kelsey had made them.
"Thank you." She smiles as she too sits down to eat.
"Uh, Mis...Mister Rob? What is two-thirty?" Tim asks after taking a drink of his tea.
"Two-thirty? Uh, it's a time during the day. It's really hard to explain, Tim." Rob says as he pushes up his glasses. "You'll understand better when you start to learn how to tell time."
"Is it two-thirty now?" Tim asks as he picks a chip up from his plate.
"No, not for another two hours." Rob chuckles, knowing pretty much where this was leading. "What's so important about that time?"
"Adam said he would be here at two-thirty. I don't want him to ... forget me." Tim says as he looks down at his empty plate.
"Aww, Sweetie." Kelsey smiles as she takes him by the hand. "There is no way that Adam will forget you. I'm sure he's missing you as much as you're missing him."
"Hey, aren't you suppose to go pick-up your glasses tomorrow?" Rob asks as he begins to help his wife clear the dishes.
"I don't know." Tim answers.
"I've noticed that you squint your eyes a lot, trying to look at something. Does it cause your head to hurt?" Rob asks.
"Yes, it hurts here." Tim says, pointing to his forehead.
"Hmm, maybe I should talk to Adam about tomorrow's class then." Rob says. "Ready to get back to work?"
~~~
Adam hops out of the car and runs to the front door. He was a few minutes early but he couldn't help himself. He knocks softly on the door.
"Well, you're early." Kelsey laughs as she opens the door for him. "I'm not surprised."
"Sorry." Adam smiles as his cheeks blush.
"That's quite alright." She says with a friendly smile. "I'm sure they're wrapping things up."
Adam follows her down a hallway to the very last door.
She quietly opens the door and they peek in.
Rob and Tim sit in front of a computer screen full of pictures.
"Tell me what is in each picture and then tell me which one starts with the letter 'A'." Rob was saying.
"Cat. Tree. Fl ...Flower. Apple." Tim pauses as he stares at one of the pictures. "I don't know what that is."
"Pig." Rob smiles.
"Pig." Tim repeats. "M..Man. And a snake."
"Very good." Rob smiles. "Now which one starts with the letter A. When you think you know the answer, touch the picture on the screen."
Tim stares at the screen, repeating each picture quietly to himself. He then reaches up and touches the picture of the apple.
"That is correct!" The computer says.
"I got it ... correct." Tim says with a huge smile.
"Great job." Rob chuckles and pats him on the back.
"YAY!!" Adam says as he claps.
"ADAM!" Tim says with excitement in his face.
"Awesome job." Adam says as he walks into the classroom giving Tim a hug.
Tim hugs Adam tightly. "Apple. Adam." He says quietly to himself.
"Did you say something, Sweetie?" Adam asks pulling out of the hug.
"Apple. Adam. Adam starts with A." Tim smiles.
"That's right." Adam smiles as he brushes back Tim's hair.
"It's also two-thirty." Tim nods.
