Pride

I walked through the Magic Kingdom, with a heavy heart. What was the point of being a Fairlie? Ye, you had powers, but what's the point? You can't help anyone, when nobody can know about you.

I kicked at a little pebble as I walked down Main Street. Anyway, what could my power accomplish? Nothing, besides burning something to a crisp.

I squeezed through the rows of people waiting for the fireworks to blow up. I was still depressed about the school I had accidently burned down a few months ago. It wasn't my fault; he just got too close. I needed to stop blaming myself, when I was just protecting myself.

I was so frustrated. I picked up the rock I've been kicking around, and threw it into the big lake, next to Adventureland. I continued to walk through out the park. Once I got back to Cinderella's Castle, I noticed everyone was gone. The show must've ended and everyone left as soon as possible to escape traffic. I was alone in a Disney park, alone.

Suddenly, I saw a spark of light by the entrance into Magic Kingdom. It was one of those DHIs, but what was it doing here? Don't they shut off when the park closes? I started to notice more and more appearing. Wait, why were there seven? Weren't there only five?

They huddled together and then headed over to a building, clearly marked as Employees Only. These weren't the regular DHIs. These were something else. I followed after them to see what they were up to. I hid behind a plant, so they wouldn't see me. One of them walked right through the door, and opened it from the inside. They all went right through, and I caught the door before it could close on me. I hid behind the pillar inside the building.

"Is there any way we can raise the temperature to see if she's in here, Philby?" One of them asked.

"I don't think so, but if I can break into the computer system I'm sure I can figure it out," the one named Philby answered, already pulling out a laptop.

"I can help," I stepped out from my hiding place to show myself. I may be exposing my true identity, but this was my chance to be noticed. They all stared at me, surprised they were being followed.

"What can you do? You're just a little girl!" the other boy laughed. I could feel heat run up to my cheeks. My face started to glow like an ember, from the blushing. I patted my head to cool it down. All their eyes became wide with fear.

I glanced around, and saw the two girls that weren't part of the DHIs. They looked vaguely familiar. One had strawberry blonde hair and freckles, and the other had a natural tan and light brown hair. The brown haired one looked up at me, and gave me a shocked face.

"Sasha?" she asked. I remembered. It was Amanda and Jess from my old orphanage. They both ran over to me and gave me hugs.

"Guys, this is Sasha Firestone. She's a Fairlie like us," Jess explained. I heard numerous sighs of relief come all around.

"I'm Finn," the one in the front extended his hand out to me. Everyone else started to introduce themselves to me. Even Maybeck, but he didn't look in my direction at all.

"So you can help us? How?" Finn asked.

"My power is controlling heat or fire. I can raise the temperature," I replied. I demonstrated by helping them. I held out my hand, thought of my most loving memory to make me warm, and you could start to feel the heat immediately. Finn gave me a warm smile.

"You know, you could be very useful to us," he said. I felt something I haven't felt in a long time. Pride.
