Willowkit stared around the camp, with her littermates Sweetkit and Blizzardkit beside her. It was snowing outside, and small white flakes swirled in the air, covering the camp. I wonder how the warriors manage to hunt in this weather...
Willowkit watched as Poppyheart, their deputy, sent out the patrols for the day. The apprentices had gathered by a tree stump to wait for their assignment, while the warriors milled about by HighRock. The constructors seemed to be already working on a new addition to the warriors' den, since there were so many young cats coming in. Willowkit glanced at the medicine clearing, but it seemed emptier than usual, which meant there were few sick cats.
"Come on, Willowkit! Stop daydreaming and come play!" Her brother stood over by the stream that bordered the edge of camp. The she-kit bounded over to him, and her paws skidded on a patch of ice on her way over.
"Where's Sweetkit?" Willowkit asked her brother. The tom looked up and flicked his tail to the medicine cats' den, where the shadowy forms of two cats were just visible. I wonder if she'll be a medicine cat apprentice...
"Oh. Let's play moss-ball." The she-kit scampered over to the nearest tree and bundled up a small amount of moss, just enough to make a ball. As soon as she was in range, Willowkit launched it at her brother.
Blizzardkit squeaked with excitement as he caught it, and then afterwards, he threw it back to her. Willowkit and her littermate threw and caught the ball many times, but it was now sun-high.
"Come on in!" Sedgespring called. "You must be cold, and it's time for you two to take a nap."
"What about Sweetkit?" Willowkit whined. "She doesn't ever have to come take naps." Blizzardkit nodded in agreement, but soon started shivering himself.
"Sweetkit is already in the den; she caught a cold from one of the elders in the medicine den today. Now come on; you're only in the nursery for a few more days so deal with it!" Sedgespring meowed cheerily. Behind that facade, though, Willowkit saw that she cared for them as her kits.
Black spots begun to crowd her vision, and all she saw was in a red haze. Willowkit was about to ask about it, but next thing she knew, she and her brother were resting next to their mother, falling asleep.
