"Mallissa?" He whispered.

He asked me to homecoming. Sent me on a journey of roses, through the most beautiful garden.

I'd always been self conscious about my appearance and about my personality in general.

He wrote little notes for me everyday and slipped it into my locker. A day before homecoming is when he asked me. He had already known about what my plans alone were considering he had been my room mate for the past couple of months.

"Zander?" I mocked.

"I need to tell you something."

"What is it?"

We stood there in the middle of the dance floor with his arms around my waist swaying to The One That Got Away by Katy Perry. "I love you."

I froze. I didn't know what to say. Sure. I had feelings for him but the last time I was in love, my boyfriend, well now ex, cheated on me with his ex.

"You don't have to say anything. I just wanted to tell you that before some other guy comes in and scoops you up and out of my arms, again."

"I was the girl you were talking about?" I asked in bewilderment.

See a week or more ago, in the middle of the night, I wasn't able to sleep because of typical breakup problems. Apparently, Zander couldn't sleep either.

I took him to the 'spot', or as other much more normal human beings, call a cliff.

My dad would bring me there when I was little if I wasn't able to sleep. It was right above Gulf Mallissa. Ironic, I know.

Anyway, the ocean is like a second home to me. More like to me and my dad. And my mother but that was a long time ago.

On one of our family surfing and jet skiing trips, my father drowned on a boat with his friends. They all were drinking except for my dad, as the investigators said, when they went too far into the ocean and got caught up in a storm.

Since then, my mother would never go too far into the ocean. I'm not sure whether she was afraid of drowning or afraid of opening old and very emotional wounds.

"Sorta... kinda..." he sighed, "yeah."

I smiled, "Well,"

Before I could finish my sentence the vice principal of Coastal High, announced homecoming king and queen.

It's Monday. I haven't seen Zander all weekend. He moved back home after homecoming.

"Are going to tell him?" Caroline, by best friend, since our diaper days, asked.

"Yeah."

I spotted my target and ran. He turned around just in time for me to jump on him and make us fall to the ground.

"Ouch." He managed to say.

We laughed.

"Oh my God, oh my God, oh my God!"

"What are you 'oh my God' -ing about?"

"You haven't heard?" I asked him.

Zander looked at me with confusion laced around his handsome face.

"Zandy!" Caroline coped playfully.

"Don't call me that." He said with venom dropping off of every word, "Just because we're cousins doesn't mean I won't kill you, understood?"

She waved him off and continued her line, "You seriously haven't heard?"

"Haven't heard what?" I smirked, "Mallissa tell me what's going on."

"I love you too."

"Really?" He asked with so much hope it was adorable.

"Really." I smiled and grabbed my face and urged it towards his.

We kissed until the bell rang.
