Mona and Ivan waits in front of his house for his assistant. They both see the Assistant arriving in a black car with a young little boy. Mona wonders who that child might be. The young child and the Assistant walks towards Mona together. "This is Jae Kim. He is 7 years old and he has just arrived here from America. Mona, you will be his nanny." The assistant introduced the kid. "Hi, my name is Mona." Mona bends down to Jae's height. He didn't even look at Mona. "She will be your nanny, give her some respect," Ivan shouts.
Jae turns to look at the assistant and said, " Can we go inside?"
As they walked in, Jae asked in an annoying tone.
"Where is my room?"
Mona straightens up and says, "I'll show you your room." She reaches her hand out to the child, but Jae ignores her and walks past.
Ivan waves at his assistant. "You can go now." His assistant bows and hands him Jae's luggage, then walks back to his car and drives off. Ivan follows behind Mona and Jae.
Jae slips into a pair of slippers, then annoyingly asks again, "Where is my room?" Ivan walks over to Jae. "Follow me!" He demands. Ivan scoffs, but starts to head upstairs with Jae as Mona followed behind. "Your room is right over there!" Ivan points to a door across from Mona's room. "Take your luggage in with you and put your stuff away. Wash up and come downstairs to eat." Jae grabbed his luggage from Ivan and headed over to his room then slams the door behind him.
Mona's voice echoed through the hallway as she knocked on the door. "Jae, dinner is ready."
She waited for a moment, but there was no response. She knocked again, a bit louder this time. "Jae?"
There was no response. Few minutes later Ivan walks upstairs towards Jae's room. He knocks on his door and shouts.
"Come out to eat! Or you can stay in there and starve yourself!"
Both Mona and Ivan wait for a few minutes. Then Ivan grabs Mona's hand and says, "Let's go eat."
Mona turns her head to look back to see if Jae was coming. Still no response.
Downstairs at the dinner table, Mona gets upset with Ivan for being so harsh to Jae. "Why are you treating him that way? He's just a kid." Ivan lets out a sigh. " I have to be like this. His mother spoiled him every day since he was a baby. Now he has no respect for anyone. I need him to understand that he is not in America anymore and he is not living the same life. He has to respect people, especially elders."
Mona gets up to clean the table. She secretly puts some food aside for Jae so he can eat it later when he feels hungry. She puts the food in the fridge and continues to collect all the dishes to the sink. "Do you want some tea?" Ivan looks at Mona. "Yes please." Mona pours the tea in a cup and brings it over to Ivan. "If there's nothing else, I would like to go clean the bathroom." Ivan looks at Mona and smile. "You're a nanny for my kid, not my maid. I have other people doing that." Mona looks at Ivan and thinks to herself, "That warm smile is back."In the middle of the night, Mona heard some noise. She silently walks over to the door and peeks out to see what's going on. Jae was sneaking out of his room. Mona quietly follows him downstairs. Then he opens the fridge and sees a plate of food. He excitedly takes it out and quickly heats it up. Mona watches from the bottom of the stairs. He quickly consumes the food and washes the dish. He then puts it away so no one will notice. Mona quietly walks back upstairs. She walks over to her bed and lays down thinking what she has gotten herself into. "He isn't a bad kid," she thinks to herself. "He's just angry."
The next morning, Mona gets breakfast ready. She calls Ivan and Jae downstairs to eat. "Mona will take you to school. Hurry and eat your breakfast and my assistant will take you both there. Make sure you listen to Mona when you come home." Jae scoots the chair away from the table, gets up and swings on his backpack and headed out. Mona runs after Jae and tries to catch up to him. Ivan shakes his head and finishes his coffee. Ivan takes his phone out to call his assistant. "Yes sir?" The assistant answers. "Make sure you tell Mona to stay with Jae. The school already knows that she will be with Jae the whole time." The assistant replies. "I got it sir." The assistant looks at Mona and Jae from the rear view mirror. "Mona, boss said you will have to stay with Jae the whole day. I will come pick you guys up when Jae gets off school." Mona looks up at the assistant. "What? I have to follow him around in school?" Mona whispers. The assistant nods his head. Mona looks over to Jae and he was staring at her. Mona smiled and Jae rolled his eyes. Then he turned away from Mona. Then Mona whispers under her breath. "Its gonna be a long day."
Shortly, they have arrived at the school. The assistant gets out of the car and walked to the back to open the door for Mona and Jae to get out. Eyes looking over towards them.
Whispers surrounding them. "Who is that? a little kid said. The kids friends shook their head.
"No clue."
Jae heard the whipers and glared at Mona. "Stay away from me" he demands.
Mona raises both hands up in surrender. " Don't worry, you won't even know im here."
Jae ignores Mona and walks toward the entrance of the building. Mona quickly follows behind.
Both Jae and Mona arrived in front of the classroom.
"Don't sit next to me," Jae whispered.
They both walked into the classroom, and Mona took a seat behind Jae. All the kids were curious about who Mona was and wondered why she was there.
