~~~~~~~One year later. ~~~~~~~
Present Day. (2013)
It's been a year and some months since the accident. Now instead of living in sunny California, I now live in London attending King's College. But I'm not alone, no; my best friend is here with me. Nat lost her scholarship to UCLA so she kept her promise and is here with me now generously paid for by the Harry Styles from One Direction. That bastard.
I grimace of the thought of him and continue to type my essay for class tomorrow. As I'm in mid-sentence, I hear the door open. It must be Nat. She limps in cane in hand; leg braced and screams, "Kendall! Kendall! You'll never guess what my physical therapist said!" limping into our living room.
I hop off the couch and walk towards her. I love hearing news from her physical therapist. It's usually always good and about how Nat's leg is getting better. "What!" I say all giddy.
She stops and tosses her cane onto the couch and motions for me to stay where I am. I do as I'm told and watch in excitement. She starts walking the rest of the distance to me with little to no limp at all. My eyes begin to tear up and I run over to her and pull her into a hug.
"Oh my god Nat I'm so proud of you!" I say between sobs. Ever since the accident it had taken every ounce of her strength to walk again with only one leg working right. She hugs me back tears starting to brim her eyes as she wipes them away. She hates crying, even in front of me.
"I've already called my parents and sisters, now I'm going to call Harry!" She says midst in the excitement. The mention of his name stops me cold and I stand rigid in front of her.
"Oh come on he is the one to thank for my therapy." She says.
"That may be true, but he is also to blame for the whole damned accident." I say my tone darkening.
"Fine. I'll be in my room calling him. Toss me my cane will you?" She asks.
"You're kidding right?" I say as I grab her cane and walk it back to her. "You know if I would have thrown that someone would have been seriously injured." I say with a forced smile, still not quite over the mention of Harry.
"Yes I do and it most likely would have been you." She says smiling back as she walks into her room cane in hand.
I sit back on the sofa and start to type again when I begin to hear hints of Nat's conversation. My curiosity getting the best of me, I slowly tip-toe to Nat's room.
"Yeah I know it's a miracle right!"She says into the phone, I can hear the tears in her voice. I can hear Harry's low voice on the other line but can't make out what he is saying. "Yes. Yes! Sounds like a plan! I'll ask her now! Oh yeah totally she'll go she has too, she can't say no to me." I hear her say; I can just see the smirk on her face.
Wait, what? I jump back from her door and sprint down the hall to the living room and hop on the sofa grabbing my laptop and acting like I've been working. I then hear her door open and the sound of her walk down the hall.
"Hey Kendall, Harry wants to treat us to dinner for my outstanding feat, please say you'll come." She says phone at her chest and her eyes pouting at me. Oh god how could I say no, I can get over my own stubbornness just enough for dinner for Nat.
I take a deep breath and sigh "Yes, yes fine." I say exasperated. She gives me her dimpled smile and hobbles off to her room like I just told her we could get a puppy. I smirk and start typing my essay again, it's going to be a long night, I think to myself.
Two hours later I'm dressed in my best and putting the last details to my make-up when I hear Nat whine. "Kendall does this look okay?" She walks into the bathroom doorway wearing a navy long sleeve lace dress that ends mid thigh paired with black tights and black flats.
