Chapter 18
My hands were intertwined with Sean’s as we sat in a carriage. Addison and Taylor sat in front of us while they both looked out of the window.
“Sean. Why they let us go so easily?” I asked looking into his eyes. I couldn’t help but smile at my brother who all along was my protector and savior, it made all the pain subsides for a short while.
“Katreena is in you that is why” I nodded my head slightly as I returned my attention to my own thoughts. Everything seemed to happen very quickly and over in a flash, but the end is for me and only the beginning for someone smaller. I still feel sick to my stomach of the thought of Demetri on top of me. Night mares will follow no doubt about that. I placed my right hand across my stomach and took in a deep breath as I held back tears. For a moment I loathed what was to be born then love from the thought of what she had to offer. I know there is so much more I need to know about the prophecy and what exactly she will be saving, but for now I can only wait nine months and move on from there.
“Hanna you know it’s going to be hard to keep her alive when the word spreads” I looked up to see Addy speak to me softly and full of concern. A single tear fell down my cheek at the thought of her safety.
“Tell me why I feel strongly about her?” I asked suddenly.
“Because she’s more powerful than any witch in existence”
“Shouldn’t I be mad or something and not feel over joyed about having a child at the age of sixteen?!” My anger began to rise as Sean began to rub my back with his hand trying to calm me down.
“Like I said Hanna she’s…” I cut Sean off.
“I understand she’s powerful but why do I love her already?” I questioned.
“Because she loves you, more than you know”
-------------------------------------
My eyes were closed as the cool air hit my skin, my arms over the railing as the boat closed in near the dock. I could hardly believe we were back home and out of that horrible place. I smiled as I glanced one last time behind me to see my friends bickering over something stupid, very typical of them. Sean walked over and let out a breath.
“We’re almost there…” I smiled weakly up at him and returned my eyes towards the dock. He placed his arm around my shoulder as I leaned into him for comfort. A few minutes passed as we stood quietly, not a single word shared between us. Addy and Taylor were both quiet as well when they joined us as the person on the intercom said to grab our belongings we were now exiting the boat. I couldn’t believe the island we were stranded on was not even four hours off shore. Then again the island is most likely protected since it’s not on the map.
We all walked off the boat silently, while I kept all my emotions locked up inside. We had nothing to grab so our hands were free. I stood in between Addy and Taylor and took their hands in mine.
“I love you both…” I whispered as a few shed of tears escaped my eyes. They both smiled with happiness and both said ditto at once which of course made me laugh and smile. Sean left us at the dock to go and get his car from the nearby car garage. Apparently he was smart enough to do so.
---------------------------
The wind moved against my hand as I had it outstretched from the car window. The familiar scent of this small town had my stomach turn in knots as my excitement to be back home grew as we began to get even closer to home. Addison’s arms wrapped around me from behind, I placed my hand from outside the window to her tight arms. My heart began to race as we began to turn onto Willow Court; our home seemed far away in the distance as Sean began to slow down from teens crossing the street heading home. Willow High, somewhere I disliked going to, but at this moment seemed one of the safest places to be. Familiar faces turned our way as we drove passed them twenty miles an hour. I gave a weak smile and waved to a few of my classmates I used to talk too in class with. My eyes scanned the campus as we pulled into the parking lot.
“What are you doing?” I asked confused. Sean lifted his chin in front of him, I turned my head as Addy released her hold on me. My stomach began to flutter as I saw the football team practice, I grabbed the door handle and swung the car door open. As I exited the car my legs ran forward instantly as my heart began to beat quicker. They were now taking a break as I began to get closer to them. I stopped instantly scanning the team as some waved towards me.
“Hanna?!” I smiled as I saw Bryson drop his cup of water and jogged my way. My smile grew as his arms were open to me. I ran into his chest and hugged him close, even though he was sweating I honestly didn’t care one bit. I took a step back wrapping my arm around his neck, slowly tracing my finger through his dark honey hair. His gray eyes began to come closer until he was an inch away.
“Are you alright? What happened? Are you hurt? Did he….” I stopped him by giving him a quick peck on the cheek.
“I missed you too and yes I’m alright… see” I stepped back and turned for he could see I was alright. I gave him a reassuring smile not wanting to tell him what really happened. Not everything at this moment made any since, including how Bryson truly was involved.
He stepped closer and wrapped his hand around my neck pulling me in yet another thight hug. This time he held for a long time and so did I. Tears welled up in my eyes as I looked up at him who seemed to be filled with concern.
“What’s wrong?” He shook his head as if he were clearing his thoughts.
“Nothing…your brother called saying he was picking me up, with you” His glistening eye winked, making my stomach filled with butterflies instantly.
“Come on” He grabbed his already packed bag and jumped into the back with Addy and Taylor. They both know how much I liked Bryson all these years, but somehow now feels different, a strange feeling in the pit of my stomach.
