Ian blinked dumbly at Axel. Was the man blind?
"There is no Shibe of that color. She has none of the correct coloring." He looked down at the heart shaped face, the mocha colored skin and those shining minty eyes. Suddenly he had a flashback. One from sixteen years prior.A screaming child being removed from it's mother's lifeless body. Ian stumbled back as if he'd been struck because that's exactly how it felt. Those too wise green eyes watched him in confusion. Ian's eyes snapped to his own flesh and blood brother. Ivan looked steadily back.
"You said you destroyed it." He hissed at Ivan before glaring at the girl.
"I told you that I tool care of her." Ivan corrected softly. Axel stood up and easily blocked the girl's escape.
"Explain what's going on here." He ordered as he gripped one fragile shoulder gently.
"The girl, Abigail, is Ian's only child." Ivan said motioning to the girl and holding her gaze.
"I told you to destroy her. She's a freak." Ian barked angerly. Ivan swung back to meet his brother's gaze.
"She was a little different not some monster. You wanted me to kill my own niece, the child of my brother and the woman I loved. The woman I loved and had just idoly stepped aside for you." Ivan paused for a second. "If she had been my own daughter I would have protected her against the world."
"I didn't want to be anymore of an outcast than we already were!" Ian yelled.
"Yet we still got banished." Ivan countered. His eyes were glowing and Ian realized Ivan was trembling.Axel cleared his throat so they both turned to face him. Ian noticed Abigail and Ellie were gone.
"Ellie took Abby somewhere safe." Axel said as if he had read Ian's mind. Which was possible.
"I was unaware you had any blood kin other than Ivan." He continued. Ian school his head.
"Ivan is my only relative. That girl... she's nothing but a freak. I wanted her gone long ago. That feeling still stands." Ian growled. A soft sniffle brought everyone's attention to the door.Abby and her angelic face stood teary eyed and sad. She held a medallion in her outstretched hand. The medallion was a small golden circle with protective symbols around the outer edge. Two flames danced in the middle together. One was crimson and stood for her mother's bloodline. It's partner was pitch black for Ian's own. Ian swallowed his last words as a single tear slid freely down her cheek. The leather band slid from her fingers as she dropped the medallion. Ian found himself flinching as the metallic clank filled the silence. Ellie wrapped her arm across Abby's slight shoulders as she ushered the girl away once again. Ivan came alive, shoving Ian so hard he slammed into the wall behind him.
" Are you happy now?" Ivan demanded and scooped up the fallen medallion.Ivan disappeared leaving Ian with Axel.
"You would have done it too right?" He asked the heartless man. Axel looked down at his biker boots.
"If you knew it would make you an outcast Axel, would you have done it?" Ian asked. He was getting desperate. He honestly needed to know. As Axel looked up he shook his head slowly.
"I'm already an outcast. I'm sorry but if it were me I would protect my child with everything I had."
