Numb

Abby felt so numb. She trembled but she wasn't cold. All this time she'd assumed maybe her parents loved her. Okay, her mother passed away so she very well may have loved Abby. But with Ian, her father, surprise then anger had bled into his handsome face when he found out who she was. No happiness or wonder at her being alive. Just pure, raw fury. The steady hand on her shoulder squeezed slightly as the sound of heavy foot steps approached. The other Shibe man, who turned out to be her uncle, came up sullen faced and quickly. His thick arms pulled her against his chest before she could protest.

     Abby sniffled indignantly.
"Why didn't you explain this three years ago when you came to me?" She demanded. Ivan had come to her three years prior in order to explain what she was. Abby pounded against the massive expanse of his chest with her fist.
   "You could have told me who you were and explained why I wasn't wanted!" She cried and shoved uselessly against him. In her mind she knew she shouldn't blame him but her heart needed release of its pain.

   She turned fully against him so she could use both fists to pummle the wide expanse of his chest. In answer he wrapped both of his arms around her and held her tightly as she sobbed against his black t-shirt. She felt his warm breath on her scalp as he pressed a kiss to the crown of her head.
   "I am so sorry." He said against her hair.  His voice wabbled tightly. Abby just gave  up the fight and stood with his shirt fisted in her hands. His large frame shuttered.
   "I am so, so sorry." He repeated. "I never thought you would have to hear that." She felt his emotions blast free and she felt his attempt to rein it in.

       Someone else joined their sad little love huddle. Someone capable of being both masculine and feminine, Ellie.
  "We're going to take you somewhere safe now." Ellie promised softly. After Ivan gently wiped away all the tears on Abby's cheeks they all turned and walked into the night.
