II

It was a windy day.

This was the first thing she had noticed as soon as she stepped foot outside.

The cool breeze touched her face - whispering something as it seemed to reach her ear. Maybe it was a warning; maybe it was a sign that something big, something life changing was about to happen soon.

Or maybe, it was just telling her about how her friend, Jill, liked to dance to the Macarena once in a while wearing a brightly colored feather skirt.

Whatever it was, she paid it no heed.
I guess you could say she threw caution to the wind.
Literally and figuratively.

It was probably nothing that important anyway.

At least, that's what she told herself, before continuing to think about something more important.

The matter at hand.

For, the events of the past few days had gotten her thinking of how someone like him could like someone like her.

Forgotten were details of his simple, boring and lanky self. Now, somehow, he had transformed in her eyes into the most beautiful thing in the entire universe (except maybe, the dancing peacocks).

His bland brown hair had turned into his charming chocolate locks.

His dull brown skin had become his mesmerising golden complexion.

His lanky build had grown into his strong, slender stature.

Two things, though, remained the exact same.

1. His eyes.

2. His frustratingly dull personality.

He would talk, yes, but all boring things. His interests weren't exactly interesting to say the least (except their mutual interest in ghosts) he was as simple as a ghost costume to a Halloween party.

Basically, a plain white sheet with two holes for eyes.

Of course, she hadn't let that stop her. So what if they had as much in common as an orange peel and queen Elizabeth's crown? She could make this work.

And she did.

Everything he liked - she researched, pondered, recommended and eventually liked too. She didn't think of it much - just a little extra homework.

At least he made her laugh, she thought. And when she made him laugh, she swore it was the most bewitching sound on the planet.

Yet, she refused to believe that she was anything of great beauty next to him. After all, he was simply a crush - one that she was supposed to admire from afar.

This was not supposed to happen.

Still, she couldn't help but think that maybe, it was meant to.

"I've got it!" she exclaimed.

He turned towards her, raising his eyebrows, "Got what?"

"The answer to the greatest riddle of all mankind."

He smirked, she was being dramatic as always.

"What is it?"

"Why did the chicken cross the road?"

"Why?"

"Because it saw a rooster coming and it chickened out."

He burst out laughing.

And that day, once again, she wrote.

***

'If we last- my darling, dear,

I know that I'd have nothing to fear.

The moments of joy and laughter as sound,

Will ring in my ears wherever we're found.

Gone will be sins, gone will be sobs,

For, nothing can make a heart with you throb.

The words of hate and loathe - for time,

Will never reach my merciless mind,

We'll dance like the horizon above the sea,

We'll dance in the colors of ecstasy.
