Alice shook Ms. Farms hand and thanked her for her help. Ms. Farms smiled as best she could. Caelee had finally started to like her. She was so kind to the twins she really treated them as children yet she didn't baby them. So many people didn't understand that fine line. Her mother shut the door and turned to Caelee. Her eyes sparkling with the tears that had begun to appear on the rims of her eyes. Caelee quickly walked over to her and hugged her tightly.
"See mom, I told you it would be okay."
"I know honey. I'm so proud of you and how strong you were. I know how hard this was for you. But you were so amazing."
"Thank you, mom...I love you so much."
"I love you Cael," she said with a slight laugh as she gently wiped the tears from her cheeks.

Slowly, she tried to open her eyes. Since she forgot to wash her face the night before her mascara had made her lashes stick together like concrete. She blindly walked her way over to the sink and rubbed water on her eyes until she could open them all the way. She looked up from the counter into the old mirror. Her raccoon-like eyes looked so tired and worn. She could hardly recognize herself. He hair was in a flopping mess of a bun with many strands stuck to the sides of her face. She stared blankly feeling completely lost. How could her life be so completely flipped over without any warning? How could she lose the one man who was always supposed to be there for her? A tear rolled down her cheek. Suddenly she looked passed her reflection and saw her little sister watching her from behind. Caelee rubbed the back of her hand across her face and turned to her little sister.
"Why are you crying?" Jada said in the softest voice you can imagine.
"I'm not... I just washed my face." Caelee responded in a similarly hushed tone.
Jada walked over by Caelee's side facing the mirror, staring at herself.
"Are we going to have to see him again?"
Caelee looked down from the mirror at her sister who continued to look straight.
"I...I don't know. I mean maybe but I think it's up to us but I don't know for sure."
"You're not going to make us go alone, are you. You have to go to you have to stay with me and Jason always. Remember? You promised."
Caelee thought back to when she and the twins were sitting in the car. Their mother was inside the motel office talking to the owner. At the time they had only planned to stay there a few short months but they had no idea how hard things would get. She sat in the front seat of the old gold civic and the twins sat in the back Jada in the middle seat with her head rested on Jason's shoulder. Caelee looked in the rearview mirror to see them both with tears in their eyes.
"Guys... This is going to be fun! Think about it! We're going to be like Zach and Cody from that show. It's going to be great I promise."
"What if he comes after us... What if he tries to take us away again?" Jason quickly shot back."
"I'm always going to be here. I'm never going to leave the two of you! You're always going to have me at your side. Always."
"That's impossible... We know you can't always be by our sides." Jason
"When it matters I will be. Always." She said turning around in her seat to face them. "I'll always protect you."
