Bailey's POV
I slowly opened my eyes, squinting as the sun coming in from the window shined right in my face. When my eyes finally adjusted, I saw Kira standing at her vanity, doing her makeup.
"Morning." I said, whilst rubbing my eyes and sitting up.
She looked at me in the mirror and smiled.
"Morning, sleepyhead." She smirked.
"What time is it?" I asked, yawning.
"11:30. You've been sleeping for awhile. Did you sleep well?" She answered.
"Yeah. How long've you been awake." I said.
"About an hour." She told me.
"I got a shower already and everything." She laughed.
"Oh. Do you wanna go out for breakfast in a little?" I asked, getting out of bed.
"More like lunch. It's 11:30, remember?" She said, laughing at me again.
"Oh, yeah. Well, lunch, then?"
"Of course. Just let me finish getting ready. You should probably change too, considering you've been wearing that since yesterday." She said, grinning at me.
She really was beautiful.
"Alright. I'll be right back." I said.
I slipped on my shoes and went to the window. I slid it open, looking back at Kira, who was watching me leave. I winked, earning a cute little giggle from her, and left down the fire escape. I walked up the fire escape to my room and went in through the window. I quickly undressed and threw my clothes in the laundry. I went to my closet and got out a pair of black skinny jeans and a hoodie. I dressed in them and slipped my shoes back on. I went to the mirror and fixed my hair the best I could, making sure not to take too long and keep Kira waiting. I looked in the mirror once more and did a quick check of myself, and left again through the window. I went up the fire escape to Kira's room and knocked. She appeared seconds later to let me in. I climbed in through the window and got to my feet.
"Are you ready to go?" I asked her and she nodded.
"Just let me get my shoes." She said and I nodded.
She went to her closet and rummaged around until she found her black hightop converse, which went perfectly with her black leggings and One Direction hoodie. She put them on and got up, grabbing her phone.
"Okay, lets go." She said, walking out of her bedroom.
I followed her down the stairs.
"Good morning, you two." Her dad exclaimed when we got downstairs.
"Morning, dad." She said, hugging him.
"Morning, Mr. Mitchell." I said, grinning at him.
"Morning, Bailey." He said.
"Where are you guys going?" He asked.
"Out to breakfast. We'll be back in a little." Kira answered.
"Alright, you two have fun." He said, as we exited the house.
We walked until we got to McDonalds, talking about anything that came to mind.
We went inside and ordered. We both got pancakes and sausage with coffees.
When our food was ready, we slid into a booth more towards the back and ate our food. Halfway through, Kira's phone buzzed and she pulled it out of her pocket. She glanced at it, and gasped.
"Oh my god!" She exclaimed.
"What? What is it?" I asked.
She showed me her phone, and said, "Levi followed me on Instagram! After everything last night, he still followed me!" She said.
I mentally groaned.
"Wow, that's great." I said through gritted teeth.
She looked up at me.
"You okay?" She asked.
"Never better!" I said, very sarcastically, but she didn't realize.
She sat on her phone for about fifteen minutes, scrolling through Levi's Instagram, I assumed, letting out a small giggle and blushing every couple minutes. I haven't touched my food since she last spoke; I lost my appetite. She hadn't eaten either, but because she was too busy gushing over Levi.
I finally got up to throw my stuff away, telling Kira I was going to the bathroom. She barely payed me any attention. I threw my food away, and went to find the bathroom. When I found it, I stood in front of the mirror and put my hands over my face. I just stood there for a couple seconds, calming myself down. It didn't last for long though. Two minutes later, Levi walked it. I removed my hands from my face, and sighed.
"Uh, hello..." He said cautiously.
"Hi." I said shortly.
I went to leave, but he spoke as I reached for the door handle.
"I'm sorry about last night. Alex shouldn't have tested you like that." He said.
I grabbed the doorknob, and before opening it, I said "yeah, he shouldn't have." Then I left.
I walked back over to our table. Kira was off her phone, finally, and staring back where the bathrooms were.
"He's here." She told me, glancing at me, then back at the bathroom.
"I noticed." I said.
She had already thrown her food away.
"You ready to go?" I asked, wanting to get out of here already.
"No. Let's wait until he comes out!" She said, gesturing for me to sit down as well.
I sighed and sat down. I can't believe this. There's no reason for her to like him. I've always been there; why can't she like me? I've always treated her like a princess. She's been my number one for ages. But still, she's in love with him. I don't understand.
Soon, the bathroom door opened again, and he walked out. On his way back to his table, he walked past us.
"Hello." He said, smiling at us.
"Hi!" Kira said, grinning broadly.
Her smile was beautiful, but I hated that it was because of him.
He got back to his table, and Kira was still watching him. I got up and stood in front of her.
"Can we just go?" I snapped.
Her smile faded.
"Yeah, lets go." She said with a sigh, getting up and walking out.
I followed behind her. She was walking fast ahead of me. I had to jog to keep up.
"Slow down, we're not in a hurry." I told her, laughing.
She let out an annoyed sigh.
"Um, okay then. Is there a reason you're annoyed with me?" I asked, trying desperately to keep up with her.
"Why can't you just support me and be happy for me like best friends are supposed to be?" She said.
"What do you mean?" I asked, slightly offended.
"I try and talk to you about Levi but you just try and change the subject. I want to hang back a little to try and talk to him, but you're very persistent to leave. Can't you just let me like him? What made you hate him so much?" She ranted on.
What was I supposed to say to that? 'You know, Kira, I've been in love with you for as long as I can remember' didn't seem like an option.
"I don't hate him." I mumbled.
She just laughed.
"Okay Bailey." She kept walking fast.
I grabbed her wrist to stop her from going any farther.
"Kira, I do support you. I'm sorry if it came across like I didn't. You can talk to me about Levi all you want. That's what best friends are for, right?" I said.
She looked away from me.
"Right?" I repeated.
She sighed.
"Right."
"Are we good?" I asked.
I don't think I can handle her being mad at me.
"Yeah." She said.
We started walking down the street again, side by side, in silence. But this time, it was an awkward silence, and that never happened with us.
When we got back to her house, everything was back to normal despite the incident on the way home.
She wanted to go to her room and watch a movie, so we headed upstairs.
"We should built a fort." She said when we entered her room.
I laughed.
"Whatever you want."
So we gathered all the pillows from her bed and put them on the floor with some blankets. Then we got a bed sheet and set it up over us like an actual tent. She got her laptop so we could watch a movie on Netflix. She decided on Papertowns, and I agreed. We laid next to each other under our tent on our stomachs watching the movie on her laptop.
But I wasn't paying attention to the movie. I watched Kira. She really was beautiful. With her long brunette hair, sparkling green eyes, and stunning smile, she was just perfect. I just wish she thought as highly of me as I did her. But she liked Levi, and nothing I could do would change that.
She turned her head and looked at me. She smiled, and I grinned back at her. She rested her head on my shoulder, and the butterflies in my stomach arose. This girl will be the death of me, I swear.
