Kira's POV
The next few weeks were some of the best I've ever had. I spent almost every minute with Bailey. We alternated houses every weekend and had sleepovers. Not only that, but because of the fact that me and Bailey were even more inseparable than we've ever been, there weren't any more incidents with Madison and her gang. Bailey made sure I wasn't alone walking to school, in the halls, at lunch, or walking home. It was nice, but I know he'll be gone in only a month, so I'm trying not to get too used to it. But on a high note, I've had a few conversations with Levi! I mean, they've been small conversations, but it's better than nothing. And I think I even caught him staring a couple of times...I'm snapped out of my thoughts by a knock on the door. I grabbed my jacket before running to answer. I opened the door to find Bailey smiling on my doorstep.
"Hey, are you ready to go?" He asked.
"Yeah lets go." I answer, grinning at him.
"Mum, Dad, I'm heading out with Bailey! We'll be back in a few hours." I yelled before shutting the door and walking down the street with Bailey at my side.
I wasn't exactly sure what we were doing, or where we were going, but Bailey had texted me half an hour ago to get ready so we can hang out. As we rounded the corner, I looked at Bailey quizzically. I had assumed we would be headed out to town, but it seems as though we're going the opposite direction.
"Um, Bailey..." I said.
"Yeah?" He answered.
"Where exactly is it that we're going?" I asked him.
"Well, I thought we'd get something to eat then head out to town for dessert, unless you object?" He said, looking at me.
"But, town's that way." I said, looking behind us.
"Shortcut." He answered with a wide grin plastered across his face.
"Okay." I said with a giggle.
We walked in silence. I wasn't sure what "shortcut" Bailey was taking, but he seemed to know where he was going, and I trusted him.
It got darker and colder the more we walked. We were now taking a path through the woods. I shivered for the third time since we had entered the woods, and Bailey stopped for a second. He slid off his coat and handed it to me.
"I think you might need it more than me." He said shortly.
I took it and put it on, whispering a quick thanks.
The path we were taking had a sudden curve to the left, and we continued to follow. I could now see an opening in the distance. It had started to grow dark, and stars could be seen. As we approached the opening, I realized that it wasn't stars, but hundreds of lights. It was a huge cliff overlooking the whole city!
"What..." I said, looking at Bailey, confused.
His grin was so much bigger now than it had been before.
"Surprise!" He exclaimed as we finally exited the trees.
There was a blanket laid across the ground with four pillows and a picnic basket.
"I thought you'd fancy a picnic after a stressful week of school." He said, still grinning.
I smiled, and hugged him tightly.
"Thank you so much." I whispered in his ear.
He was right by saying this week had been stressful. I had so much homework and studying to do. Plus, my mum had to go to multiple appointments to check up on her cancer. I even showed up at Baileys window yesterday crying, mid-panic attack, at two in the morning. Bailey had helped a bunch, though. He studied with me, and completed the homework I didn't have time for. He's the best.
As I let go, he grabbed my hand and led me to the blanket. I sat down across from him as he emptied the basket. There was an array of food, ranging from turkey sandwiches to fruit salad. We ate until our stomachs couldn't hold anymore.
I washed down the last of my sweet tea as Bailey finished his food.
"Your mum is the best cook." I told him, smiling.
And it was true. I loved going over Baileys for dinner because of his mums food. My dad didn't know how to cook at all. When I actually stayed home for dinner, we would have to order pizza because my dad would burn whatever he tried to cook.
"I know." He replied, smiling back at me.
"So what now?" I asked.
He laid back, resting his head on some pillows, without answering me. He gestured for me to lay down next to him. I did so, and he put his arm around my shoulders. I moved closer to him and rested my head on his shoulder.
We laid there in silence for what felt like thousands of years, just looking at the sky and the stars that had now appeared. Eventually, we got up.
"Do you wanna head to town now?"
"Yeah!" I answered, and we started down the same path we took to get here.
