My Time With You

My Announcement (Part 2)

I nodded at Steven as we entered the store. I handed him a list of half the things we needed, and sent him off. As he walked away, I glanced over the things I needed to get. I sighed. Then I smiled, remembering how much fun this was going to be.

As I nonchalantly walked down the aisles of the store, I was grabbing things I would need. I glanced down at my list. I had the napkins, the food, and the books. Now all I needed was the things to make the cake. I grabbed a chocolate mix, vanilla crossing, and a green frosting. I already had the cake decorator tube at home, because I baked a lot and made fancy designs on the cakes, so all I needed was the mix and the frostings.

I finally had everything I needed. I texted Steven and waited for him at the bakery area in the store. When he arrived, I made a quick note that he had everything. I smiled and gave him a kiss. We walked towards the registers, and checked out. Once we got into the car and everything was in the trunk, I smiled as I checked my watch. Luckily it was only 1:30.

Five minutes later we pulled into the driveway of our house. We quickly brought all of the groceries into the house and set them on the counter. I pulled out the food, and Steven put them in the fridge, where they would remain for a few hours. As he did that, I began working on the cake. I quickly prepared the mix, and once the oven was preheated, I poured the mix into two circular pans. I then put them in the oven and set the timer for 20 minutes.

As soon as the timer went off, I took the cakes out of the oven. Inserting a toothpick into each of them, I made sure they were done. As they cooled, I whipped the vanilla frosting and put the green frosting into the decoration tube. Once I was finished with that, I made sure the cake were cool. They were. I took them both out, and put a layer of frosting on the top of one. I then gently lifted the other and placed it on top. I made sure they were even and then quickly and expertly frosted them.

"Steven! Can you come here real quick?" I yelled. Steven popped his head into the kitchen and I waved for him to enter. "What should I write?" I asked as he wrapped his arms around my waist. He put his head on my shoulder and thought a moment.

"How about 'There's a new Universe coming'?" He suggested. I paused for a moment. I nodded, giving him the affirmation.

"I like that." I quickly gave him a kiss before ushering him out of the kitchen. When I was baking, I needed to concentrate. Which meant no one but me in there. I decided on a cursive, sprawling font after I tested a few out. I then took about 10 minutes and carefully put the words on the cake. Once I was done, I admired my work and smiled. I then placed the cake on a platter and set it on the counter.

I walked out of the kitchen and grabbed a few things to decorate the dining room with. I glanced at the clock. It was already 2:30. I sighed. Only 3 and a half hours until dinner. I smiled, picturing everyone's reactions again.

It took me and Steven about an hour to decorate the dining room. We had a white tablecloth with pink and blue balloons on it, plastic cups and silverware at each spot, and napkins that matched the tablecloth. I smiled at our work and gave Steven a kiss as he hung a pink and blue streamers around the room. This was going to be a fun night. I checked my watch. It was already 3:40! I had to get started on the meal.

I went back into the kitchen and Steven followed. We grabbed all the food out of the fridge, and I seasoned the steak as Steven cut up the vegetables. I put the steaks into the oven and Steven put the vegetables into a pan. He added a little bit of vanilla flavored oil and a splash of vinegar and he sauteed them as I set a timer for the steaks. I knew which gems liked to eat, so I prepared enough for everyone I was certain would eat. This included Amethyst, Amber, both Steven's dad and my parents, and Turquoise.

As the food finished, I checked the time. It was 5:45. I had a little bit of time to pick up before anyone got here. I walked about the living room, hiding the pregnancy books Steven and I had bought earlier. As soon as I had finished cleaning, I heard a knock on the door. I checked my watch. 5:50. Perfect timing.

I opened up the door, only to be tackled in hugs by the gems. I laughed as Steven emerged and they released me to engulf him in hugs. When they finally released the both of us, we all sat down in the living room. As soon as I sat down, however, there was another knock. I got up and opened the door to be greeted by my parents. I hugged them, and we sat down in the living room. A few minutes later, everyone went to the dining room as there was the final knock on the door. Greg walked in and hugged me, and we walked to the dining room. Once everyone was seated, we served food to those that wanted it.

Once everyone was done eating, Steven gave me a discreet nod. I smiled and stood up. He stood too.

"Guys, before we serve you dessert, we have a special announcement." I grinned and left the room. Grabbing the cake from the counter, I heard Steven start a drum roll on the table and I laughed. I took a deep breath, and entered the room with the cake. I set it down in the middle of the table. Stepping back, I gave them a moment to read the words written on the cake. Everyone collectively gasped, and I walked over to Steven and smiled. Then we were suddenly shrouded in hugs and congratulations.

I felt my parents and my father in law hug us first, then we were all brought to the ground by the gems' collective hugs. Everyone backed off, laughing. I looked at my mom, who was so happy she was crying. Then I noticed Pearl crying too. I laughed at them, and then I felt tears biting at the corners of my eyes. Not being able to hold it in, I joined them.

This was the second happiest day of my life, topped only by getting married to my one true love. But I saw Garnet's face go serious, and I wondered how long my happiness would last.
