Farryn POV:

I had made deals with Vex before, they had never worked out for me but I had met with him without fighting before. Now, I had that same feeling of dread and butterflies in my stomach waiting to meet with Xavier. I had to make another deal with a Devil, a much more handsome and sweet devil but a devil nonetheless. Xavier had no idea what he was getting into, he already knew that I was the one in the forest, that I was out hunting every night.

My clock flashed midnight and my body froze up. I had never been this nervous to meet with Vex, what was wrong with me now. Somewhere deep I knew that it was because I didn't want to admit to what I had done, to what I was allowing Vex to do. For making deals with him to keep my family safe.

So I did the only thing I knew how to do. I got up and went outside to the forest. I had always and would always put my family before me in every single way. It was time to meet up with him and see what he had to say, I only prayed he didn't know more than that I was the hunter. I could only pray Vex hadn't gotten to him in the time I had been here.

"The moon is almost gone, there's just a sliver left and then you'll be at your weakest," I said out into the forest as Xavier came into the light.

"you sure know a lot about Werewolves for a hunter, let alone a human."

"This isn't some game, what do you want to talk about." I had turned on my game face.

"This isn't some story either this is my life. This is my family's life, and if I could get rid of all the Vampires, and Werewolves and all of that shit I would so gladly get rid of every one of them. But I can't, the best thing that I can do is go out and try to hunt the creatures that go bump in the night. The creatures that try and hurt humans."

"Farryn, I am not here to accuse you of anything. I just want to talk to you about that Vamp.

"he wants to talk to you about me, I should be so honored right now." Vex stepped into the woods where we had met.

"what the hell are you doing here?" Vex's eyes raked up and down both my and Xavier's body.

"You know what they say one last hurrah. You sure look sexy in that getup. You should wear that all the time." Xavier started growling and I scoffed in disgust.

"Don't pay attention to him, he's just a sicko."

"Protecting him now are we, I thought you hated wolves. I thought you hated the dogs that.."

"Shut up right now! that is mine to tell and you certainly will not be sharing the contents of my life with every person you come in contact with."

"Hmmm. I wonder," He gasped.

"Could it be? Is this here Alpha your mate?" I didn't offer any response.

"My little bird has a mate, oh happy days! I'm so glad the two of you are here together. I was going to track each of you down but you make it so easy for me. While you to converse about all your deep dark secrets I might just have to give dear old mom and baby brother a small visit and work things out with them." Then, then I froze.

"You son of a bitch." his crooked smile was all I could see as he vanished.

"No no no no no, I'm sorry Xavier I have to.. I have to go." I started running off back to the house. "I'll make it up I swear," As I ran I continued to mutter names and swears at Vex. The fastest way to get back to my house was to cut through another territory, he would never see me coming from the opposite direction, I just had to move faster.

"That fucking Cheshire cat." his mind was so warped and twisted, our meeting no matter how short-lived was a moment I will hold.

I pushed on, my body lurching as I swiftly moved across the forest floor, going over roots and under branches swinging around some trees making sure to disperse my sent and move forward.  Once out of the territory I moved even faster, I didn't know what lived out here in between the territories, whatever it was it couldn't be worse than Vex. I hear the wolves on the other side of the territory line. Xavier had literally called on the dogs to fight Vex with me. As I rounded to the house, I couldn't find Vex's sent.

"Where is he! Where is he!" I yelled. I ran to my room and carefully checked each room. Jacob was fast asleep, Mom passed out in her bed, and Grandma asleep soundly on the couch.

Going back towards my room I caught sight of a piece of paper on the windowsill in Jacobs window.

Time to finish the deal.

Time to finish what we started, hurry up birdie, the suns going to rise soon.

I shredded the paper and threw the scraps in the bathroom wastebasket before walking out of the house and past Xavier and all of his soldiers.

"He's not here. They're fine, he tricked us. Go back to your house and check everything. Make sure he didn't hurt anybody or leave anything there. Be thorough." Xavier nodded and dismissed his fighters.
"Farryn, we still have to talk," I stopped him with the rise of my hand.

"Tomorrow night, I promise, just please give me a minute. I need to walk alone. Just one minute please Xavier." I didn't wait for him for a single moment I took off back to the cliff from the other night. The night I was supposed to die, again.

------

"You know you have to reject him. You always knew that. You can't love someone, you're not even supposed to be alive. We made a deal little bird and I think you need to keep your end of the bargain so I can keep mine." Vex walked up behind me slowly.

"I know, and I plan on finishing the deal tonight. Just like you asked."

Xavier POV

I probably shouldn't but I was going to follow her. Vex was somewhere out there and I needed to make sure he wasn't going to get her the second we were both unprepared. After being granted permission again to go into the neighboring pack I saw Farryn standing by the same cliff.

"I am really going to have to explain to this pack why I keep coming over here to get a human." She didn't respond, not even a flinch when I spoke up. She stood like a statue, I didn't even know if she was breathing right now.

"Farryn?" She turned to me and smiled, but her eyes were dark, they were full of despair, pain, everything. An arrow flew past my line of vision and pushed itself, deep, into Farryns' chest, she stumbled back a few steps, before falling down,

"No!" I screamed running to her. I pulled the arrow from her chest, it was her own arrow. The ones that she had used on us not that long ago. All I could think was what would happen if she died. Slowly Farryn looked up at me and raised herself higher and higher until she was sitting. She looked out at the water behind us, the ocean past the cliff. I helped her stand and another arrow shot out and landed in her back, I turned to find the attacker but there was no sent. It had to have been Vex.

"Hey," She whispered, turning to me once more two arrows now in her body.

"Look at me," I did, I looked at the pain in her eyes.

" I Farryn Marshal... Reject..." Another arrow whizzed by and hit her in the shoulder and she tumbled backward, over the edge of the cliff. Running I tried to grab her but she had already plummeted deep into the water. Farryn would be dead if I didn't get to her soon.
