The police arrive shortly and once they see me, they call for an ambulance. My ribs are bruised, and my face is all bruised and bloody. Before anything, they take pictures of it. And then they ask me tons of questions, all of which I answer truthfully. I tell them when it started, and how mom always instigates it.
At the hospital the police ask more questions, and take my statement. They write everything down. They ask me if I want to press charges, and for a lonely second I think to myself. Do I want to? Should I? Yes, okay, yes I should. But, I say no and say that I think my parents need help. That I think they need counseling. After a few more hours they release me, and a social worker pulls me aside and talks to me about my little sister. I ask questions about how I can get custody of her. And she gives me a number to call.
And maybe later on I'll regret not pressing charges, but honestly, I think my dad only did half of the shit he did because of my mother. I know what my dad did was wrong, but he's my father. And I'm not saying its okay that he did that, but I think he deserves the help he needs to get better. After I am done talking to the social worker I see Ryan. I'm nervous and excited and all kinds of emotions, but the one thing I am, is relieved. She's here. The one person I need the most. She wraps her arms around me slightly and I feel at home. She presses her body into mine, and even though I'm aching, I allow it. Being in her arms takes away the pain. The mental, and physical. Her love is enough for me.
"You don't have to tell me what happened, but I do want to know where Kay is..." She whispers into my ear as she holds me close. I fill her in on everything with Kaylee and that I have to call a number to see about getting custody of her.
