"Are you a boy?"
Six years old James stared at the girl in front of him.
He has been teased about looking like a girl before, but this girl didn't say it as if she was mocking him. She seems just curious...
James nodded.
The girl smiled at him.
"You're so pretty!" The girl squealed.
Again, James was surprised that he wasn't offended with this statement. It didn't sound like an insult, it sounded more like a compliment.
"I look a lot like my mom." James decided to say.
"Then she must be really pretty, too!" The girl said, beaming.
James finally smiled. She really wasn't teasing him.
"She is! But don't tell her I told you that..." James said.
The girl giggled.
"At first," James said, "I thought you were a boy."
The girl laughed. She really did looked like a boy with her outfit: a cap, a big shirt and a baggy shorts.
"Why are you wearing a boy's clothes?" He asked her.
"That's cause I'm disguising." She said and then she went near him and whispered, "I'm an actress, you see."
James stared at her. It didn't seem like she was lying. And she was cute enough to be one.
"You should be an actor, too! You're so pretty!" she said.
James thought about it and said, "I want to be a chef, though."
"You know how to cook?" The girl asked, amazed.
"A bit..." James said, a little shy.
The girl beamed at him, "Wow!"
"I can teach you if you like." He offered.
"That would be great!" The girl squealed in delight but then someone called.
"Nadine!"
The girl looked to where the voice came from.
"I'm sorry I have to go." She said as she ran to her mom.
She waved back to him one last time before they go.
"James, come on, we still have lots to buy." James's mom called.
He went to her mom and they continued with their Christmas shopping.

Nadine combed through her hair. It had gotten so long now.
She'd always sported long hair, but she had thought of cutting it short. Her best friend, Yassi, though beg her not to. She told her it would be a waste.
Well, it wasn't really a big deal to Nadine. It helps keeps her warm especially since it's already ber months. Nadine looked out through their classroom's window. It was already dark even though it was still early.
Their Christmas break was nearing. The year was ending.
She gathered her hair and then took her ribbon to tie it.
She checked her reflection in her mirror and was satisfied with her hair.
'Was' because suddenly, someone pulled her ribbon off her hair.
She knew at once who did it.
"James!" She growled.
It was getting old. She didn't know exactly when it started but nowadays, whenever she tie her hair, James would pull her ribbon off.
