|2| CHURROS |
Have you ever had that feeling? The one where it seemed like coldness was shot directly into your veins and as it somehow made its way to your heart, all you can hear was the faint beating?
Dub. Dub. Dub.
Then suddenly everything else around you is like a thick compilation of clips running through in slow motion...
Because I, my dear ladies and gentlemen,am feeling that right now and this thick clip compilation is the one I dread to see. Specifically referring to the person of this unfortunate slow motion.
My fath... (okay, don't force me to say 'the word')... Vincent. 'Cause that's all he is to my life right now. Just another seven letter word.
I entered the gate of his mansion, a.k.a my former house, and parked my car. As I climbed out and locked it, a familiar voice welcomed me.
"Ahem. Did you miss me?" I was surprised by her presence and immediately hugged the woman with uneven tan skin, loose bun, and still wears the apron with an "I'm Sexy and I Know It" statement. My Nanny Tiya.
"Tiya! Of course, I miss you! Why wouldn't I?" I happily answered.
"Well, I haven't seen you for five months. I thought you've forgotten about me." She let go from our hug and cupped my face with her warm chubby hands.
"Now that is impossible Tiya! You're like my mom you know? And I see you still wear the apron I gave you last Christmas." I said as I raised one of my eyebrows "I'm sorry for leaving in such short notice Tiya. Things have been at fast pace you know."
"I know dear. I know." She smoothed my hair. The thing she does everytime she comforts me."Are you staying for good?"
I laughed half-heartedly, seeming to be caught off guard with her question. "Unfortunately, no. I just needed to ask him something about the company."
"Well, that's too bad. I'm sorry about what happened dear." She said worriedly.
"What's done is done. Anyway, enough of the whole sad fiasco stuff, do you still have some of your famous homemade churos? I missed those babies to bits!"
"I know you'd miss those babies!"
We both laughed as we entered the house.

Their shouts made it seemed like we had paper thin walls. The shattering sounds of broken vases and figurines were almost blurry but clear enough for me to realize that it was his fault.
I continued peaking from the door. Even though I was in my Barbie Sweater, the atmosphere still seemed so cold.
"I can't take this anymore Vincent!" I heard my mom shout. Then the familiar sound of zippers and closet doors invited me to look further. But the door was immediately opened.
She saw me. She knew I saw everything. But the fact that her 4 year old daughter saw what happened didn't stop her.
She stood in front of me whispering the words "I will come back for you Valerie" and "Mommy loves you Valerie."
I shook my head and returned the picture frame right back to its place. The dusty void seemed to know my five month absence in my bedroom.
"Nothing much has changed." I whispered to myself.
What difference do you expect to see within just five months Valerie? My mind debated.
Warmth. I thought back.
"I see you still remember the way to your room." I pulled back from my trip down to memory lane and stood in front of the man I vowed to never see again.
"I was only gone for five months but of course, you didn't even notice that." I answered back uncaringly.
"So what brought back your charming presence to your once humble abode?"
"I think you and I both know why I am here Vincent." I glared at him, and almost regretting the fact that I'm actually talking to him.
"So investors were pulled out from your company in just a span of what... a day? Then your TV ratings have been down by 25% in just five months? And only a 1% increase in advertisement profits? Sounds to me that you've been handling your company in such a good management Valerie." He stated out the obvious facts with sarcasm.
"Well, it is hard to manage your leftovers dear daddy." I retorted.
He laughed at me. Like really laugh at me. For what seemed like hours, he took a deep breath and
came closer.
"Fine. If you want to play that game dear daughter I will teach you the hard way. I will bring back the investors, and increase the ratings and advertisements to unbelievable percentages. Only if you will agree to my condition."
I was really surprised by what he said. If I abide by his condition then it will be as if nothing ever happened. But why do I have a feeling that this catch might even worsen the situation?
I thought for about a minute and he just stood there eyeing me curiously. He probably is running out of patience.
After weighing out the pros and cons to the situation, I gave up my gut feeling and asked "What is your condition then?"
He smiled. "You resign."
