I awake in pain, breathing hard. I sit up slowly biting my lip to hold in my cry. I'd been punished yesterday 20 lashes for not pleasuring a lunis. Well screw them. I don't belong to any one even if the human race is reduced to slavery which it is.

I forget my pain letting my hatred for the world's leader, King Vexsin. He is responsible for thousands of deaths. He is the reason I am alone in this hell of a world. My chest starts to ache as my mind drifts back to my 5th birthday. The day the U.S. fell, 2017....

Everyone I knew had taken up shelter at my school. There was about fifty of us in all. My mother and father had arranged a surprise party for me to try and get everyone's mind at ease. We were gathered in the cafetria.

There was a small white cake with my name, Kurai, written in blue on it. Five mix matched candles were lit on top. My mom smoothed my hair and smiled. "My little brown eyed baby, Happy Birthday."

"Mommy, I'm not a baby. I'm a big girl." I said. Oh, if only I had known what would happen next.

I never did get to taste the cake and nobody got to finish singing either. I wiped my face as silent tears came down. That was the only reason I every cried anymore. Other than that I was unemotional except for fear. No one can escape fear.

I went to the storage closet at the end of the unit that held me and some other people. I didn't know there names, matter of fact they were terrified of me. Must have been the scars along my face and body.

I filled my bucket with water and soap. I grabbed my rag and went to the greenhouse. It was winter time so it was empty. I started scrubbing the Celtic knots all over the marble floor until they gleamed.

I saw my reflection in the floor. I looked like Death. I should know I've had to talk with Death before, two words, not pleasent. My hair was matted and dirty. Underneath my brown eyes it was dark. My scars created cracks all along my face. The worst looking one was probally the the one that from my forehead over my eye to the bottom of my chin or maybe the crisscrossing ones.

A man came in. He smelled of sweat and animals. Not a nice scent at all. I'd almost bet my life he was a werewolf.

"Go wash the throne rooms." He ordered. I went to get up resisting the urge to roll my eyes when he growled turning to someone behind him. The said someone may I add had fangs.

I stood up. Evidently the werewolf noticed I was still here because he shoved me and screamed at me,"Get moving, slave!"

My anger flared up. Just because they ruled did not make us slaves! I will never be a slave! Slaves submit, afraid of their consequences for their actions. Well, that is just not me.

Before rational thought could take over I swung my bucket around hitting the werewolf in the face dead on. There was a loud crack. I had the fleeting thought that if he broke my bucket that I might kill him. He yelped clutching his nose. Blood was dripping from his hands. Well I must have broke something. The vampire was amused. I was pleased until the werewolf spoke.

"You'll pay for this witch." He nodded at the vampire. "Kill 'er."

I closed my eyes and braced myself for pain.
