Black. GOSH DARN VELVET.
As one of the first reads I've read on Wattpad, and one of the best, Black Velvet is the first story I thought of to start off Best Gay Reads.
My first impression of Black Velvet was that it was, and is, one of the most poetic, profound, well-written stories I've ever read. I still stand behind that. It starts off strong with a really interesting plot and continues that way. Am I making sense? Because it's great.
The characters, Tobias, Oliver and others, are well developed and multi-dimensional. No side character is useless, each character, main or not, is important, relevant, and unique. One of the many reasons I like Black Velvet is because author mythmouth utilizes side characters so well, not to mention just charming and unique main characters.
I also really enjoy the just about perfect grammar mythmouth utilizes in all of their stories. I'm a slut for perfect grammar, and I actually learned a lot about my own writing style from reading and re-reading Black Velvet. Something that I noticed mythmouth does that really intrigues me as a reader, is placement of dashes and commas. Dashes are used frequently to make sentences longer but more fragmented, which actually depicts internal thought or speaking very realistically in my opinion.
RE 👏🏼 SPECT 👏🏼 Love it. 💖
Continuing on!
I love the plot because everything is so intentional (at least, it seems that way ☺️). Never a boring chapter, even if the pace is very relaxed. There are a lot of fluffy scenes that I absolutely adore, as well. Conflicts are all well planned, led up to, and executed realistically. Cliché's are killed. You will feel everything that happens here.
Now, Black Velvet is now currently only on the author's patreon, however it is well worth supporting the author and such a great read! The author also has a couple other stories on their profile so be sure to check those out!
I will post the summary and cover of Black Velvet and other amazing reads by mythmouth here so that they are easier to find, and so that you can look through them without having to actually do a search just yet.
So here's Black Velvet . . .
mythmouth has also written (equally stunning) stories such as
• The Blue House of 1478
... which I'm COMPLETELY ADDICTED TO. I just love the dynamic between the three of them to the point where I don't know what to do with myself. There's also a lovely flower motif (if I'm using that word right) in which the meanings of all the flowers are brought up constantly. It's just too cute!
• And When Love is Bitter
This one is extremely poetic, but very short. Still worth the read!
All are definitely, definitely worth reading. You can find all these stories here, https://www.wattpad.com/user/mythmouth, or on the author's patreon!
If there are any covers, teasers, or usernames that are no longer accurate, please either comment or send me a message in my inbox to let me know!
I also have a couple other stories published on my profile, and though you may not see them here amongst the best stories, I'd still love to see you guys check them out!
Please feel free to add your own opinions on these stories below in the comments, I'm sure everyone would love to hear them!
