This story really struck me with it's originality. When I read it, I hadn't ever read anything similar at all. I still haven't.
My first impressions were that despite the darker themes featured in this story, it was very much interesting and captivating to read. The story is well written, but as someone who has to take dark themes like this delicately when reading, I wasn't sure if I would like it. (However, I don't know if anyone can relate to this, but sometimes you just want to read something dark that'll mess you up mentally.) So, I continued on, honestly intrigued by where the plot seemed to be going. I also love the way author names their characters, and I realized that very soon after I began reading. Despite being a little hesitant, I ended up really enjoying the story!
I love the characters, because even though there are so many, I feel they are all well-introduced, well-developed, and unique from each other. As I was reading, I could remember their names and personalities, so that made my reading experience so much better than it already was. It usually takes a lot of effort to introduce and maintain so many characters at once, so I applaud author's way of implementing that. I think it shows a lot of skill as a writer. Main character Mint is relatable, even if you don't face the same struggles that he does, and such a cutie!
The plot is something I find very interesting - not only am I intrigued by the general idea, like I said before, but I definitely like the way the plot goes on. No spoilers, but with so many delicate characters, having certain things go wrong having to do with certain characters makes for what I believe a great plot for this story, and it was well executed! I was absorbed in this story from the moment I started reading, and it left me with a serious book hangover when I finished. (I then re-read a gazillion times, but ya know.)
Good news - the story is completed! And, it has a sequel!
So here is Mr. Spice and Everything Nice . . .

• And the sequel, No Snips & Snails or Puppy Dog Tails

I also need to mention two new favorites of mine - I hadn't read them until recently and I am in love with them so much.
• Here is Stay High

• And a real gem, Kiss, Marry, Kill. I am in love with this story, for many reasons, but a lot because I just love Charlie <3 This is to be read after Stay High, I believe, but isn't quite a sequel.
