The days following Alec's outburst were not very pleasant. He spent his evenings sulking in his room, trying as hard as he could to avoid any type of social media. Once in a while he would crack, give in, browse around Facebook or Snapchat, regret it, and then travel right back into the terrible state of mind he had been in ten minutes prior.

Even Brian had begun to notice his mood shifts and constant scowl.

"What crawled up your ass and died?" he asked on Wednesday during their lunch break.

Alec had itched to lash back with something horribly mean but refrained from doing so. Just because his life wasn't going well doesn't mean he had to make others miserable as well.

Another day passed by with Alec clenching his fists and keeping his temper at bay. He slammed his feet down as he marched up the stairs to the eleventh floor of the building. He hoped that form of aggression would relieve some of his own, but it didn't do much besides make him look like an idiot. And feel like one, too.

"Mom? Did you buy--" Alec called as he walked into the apartment. "Mom?"

His mother was nowhere to be found. She wasn't humming badly to some unknown song in the kitchen or playing some piano in the living room. She wasn't even in her room, which she rarely frequented anyway. Alec walked into his room to see if she was maybe changing the sheets when he saw the note on his pillow.

With his heart pumping wildly in his chest, Alec dived for the note as if staring at it any longer would make it disappear. He ripped it in his haste to unfold it, but was able to understand what the note said without the top right corner. His heartbeat slowed down to its normal pace as he read through the short note. If she had left him...he wouldn't know what to do with himself.

Hi Alec,
I'm going out for three days. I have some business to attend to in Florida, but it won't take so long. I left some food in the fridge, of course, but I think you can take care of the rest.
Get some sleep and stop sulking. You're ruining the house's aura.
                                                Love you,
                                                    Mom

Alec placed the note on his nightstand and took a deep breath while he raked his hands through his hair. He walked around his room aimlessly, bored without his mom or Brian to amuse him. Finally, after what seemed like an hour of pacing back and forth, Alec ripped his clothes off and showered for a good ten minutes longer than normal. He stood in the shower for a few minutes just feeling the warm water run down his back and through his curly hair. It felt heavenly--now he knew why girls took so long to shower. They probably spent most of their time standing underneath the shower head.

When he stepped out, he checked his phone due to another moment of weakness only to find it filled with texts from Brian.

Brian: You coming to the party tonight??

Brian: Dude

Brian: ??

Brian: I swear to god if you're just fucking with me cuz you're still on your period from four days ago we're not friends anymore

Brian: At least tell me if you're still pissed

Alec chuckled a bit and decided to let Brian freak out a little bit longer. Alec had never gotten angry at Brian before. In fact, Brian never angered anyone besides teachers and the occasional boyfriend of some girl he hooked up with. And if he thought that Alec was mad at him for some reason, he would freak out and continuously text him until he replied.
