Brian decided it was time to tell Alec who he was seeing. He had texted a really, really long paragraph explaining why he decided to tell Alec now. It went exactly like this:
Brian: I'm telling you who my bitch is, bitch
Alec couldn't even think of a reply. He left Brian on read and waited for a call or text. What he didn't expect, though, was for Brian to burst through his bedroom door ten minutes later looking determined and angry.
"What's--"
"She told me not to tell you," Brian rambled, "but I can't do this anymore! She's so controlling and bitchy and--and--ugh! I don't even know why I'm so into her anymore, but I can't fucking stop. Do you know what that's like, man? When you're stuck with a person you really like but really hate at the same time? But, like, I only hate that she's got me so whipped, man. I'm like a dog on a leash and she tells me where I can and can't take a shit."
"Bad analogy, but go on," Alec said uncertainly.
Brian sighed. "I met her months ago, when we went to that orientation and we're introduced to the professors and heads of the departments. So she's this insanely cool teacher, right? And I have her class and all I do is act like the idiot I am and one day--"
"Wait," Alec interrupts, his mind processing the information faster than he can understand it. "Your girlfriend is a teacher? A professor?"
His best friend rolls his eyes. "Just listen to the fucking story, asshole. Anyway, I'm being the idiot that I am and have donuts in front of me and am eating obnoxiously. She comes up to me and mops the floor with me in the middle of class, the way she replied--you were there! Remember when that happened?" Brian was pacing back and forth. "Anyway, after she owned me, she called me to stay after the class ended and gave me her number. Since then, we've been dating in secret. And now I'm finally telling you, even though she'll kill me if she finds out."
Alec's eyes snapped up to Brian's in realization. "That note you kept staring at during lunch--that was Professor Laughlin's?" Brian nodded. "And when I left your place and a person came over in an ugly ass track suit--that was her?" Brian nodded. "Whoa...what?...whe--? I don't even know what to say, Brian. Congrats?"
Brian laughed loudly. "It's a little weird, yeah. Well, my secret's out. What's yours?"
"I'm Jo's son."
"What?"
"The singer, Jo. I'm his son."
"Nah, man. You're joking." Alec raised his brows and sent him a look that only Brian could interpret as Alec being completely honest. "I thought your dick was broken or something! This changes everything!"
Alec raised a single brow. "How does this change anything?"
Brian scoffed. "I swear, Alec, sometimes you're so slow. You're Jo's son. Imagine the amount of Instagram followers--think of all the PR opportunities! We can be celebrities, man."
Alec laughed and shook his head. "No. That's not happening. No one's going to know that I'm Jo's son."
"About that..." someone said from behind them. They turned around to face Sam, holding the house phone to her chest. "Can I talk to you?"
Alec followed his mother into the hallway and watched her play with her frizzy hair using her free hand. She looked worn out; more worn out than usual. The bags under her eyes that never existed previously were darker and more prominent, her lips chapped and face sullen. But her eyes were bright and happy. Some things don't ever change.
"I want to...expose us, as you call it," she said. "And I know that I said this has nothing to do with you, but it does. And I won't tell the world who we are if you don't want me to. So before I call TMZ, I need your permission. I need to know that you're okay with it."
Alec was a little...shocked, to tell the truth. Never in his nineteen years of living had his mother asked for his permission for anything to do with him. She threw him birthday parties without his consent, got him a date for the middle school dance without his permission; she even got him a costume that matched hers for Halloween when he was thirteen. The embarrassment was overwhelming.
He thought about it for a few minutes. His mother, for the first time since he can remember, was actually serious about something. She wasn't acting like the clueless happy-go-lucky mom she always was. It left a sense of unease in his stomach, making him want to turn away and say no. But how could he not say that now? After all the work he'd suffered through to find out who the one exposing him was? And, then again, his mother seemed to really want this. More than she wanted them to wear matching Dracula costumes for Halloween when he was thirteen. (He gave in to her request back then, too.)
"...sure..." he said reluctantly, dread filling his stomach.
Sam raised a thin, delicate eyebrow. "Sure? Honey, you're not really convincing me."
"Sorry, Mom. I'm just having trouble wrapping my head around this. Why do you want everyone to know?"
"Because I'm tired of hiding, Alec, that's why!" his mother said exasperatedly. "I got pregnant with you at sixteen--had to keep that secret. I couldn't go to college, you know? And then I had to keep who the father was a secret. After you were born and I had to sign you up for school, I had to keep my income a secret. Every single part of my life has become a secret, Alec. I can't take it anymore!"
The mini-speech shook Alec's core. He thought a little more about the speech.
"Fine, Mom. But I'm not going to like it."

"How can you possibly not like this?" Brain screamed. He waved at all the people waiting in front of the lobby doors, who only screamed louder when they thought it was Alec himself.
Alec shrunk behind the counter, wishing a thousand times over that he had never signed up for this.
He looked over the counter to see Ali among the girls and guys trying to push themselves into the building. Without thinking twice, Alec opened the door, grabbed Ali, hissed at the feeling of people reaching for him, and pulled her in while the security guards kept people away.
She looked disheveled and tired. Her hair was flopped to the side and her shirt was pulled across her body to the side due to the amount of people pushing.
"There's so many people," she sighed out.
Alec pulled her to him and rested his head on her shoulder, although a bit uncomfortable. "I know, I can't stand it."
She rubbed his back comfortingly. "Don't worry. Brian and I are here." Alec felt his girlfriend chuckle against his chest. "But Brian isn't that much of a help, I'm guessing. He's loving this, isn't he?"
"Yeah, he is."
Brian groaned from across the lobby. "Can you guys stop being lovey-dovey? I'm trying to live it up in all your fame."
Alec and Ali laughed, going to join Brian and marvel at the amount of people outside the building.
"You're going to have to move," Ali said.
"What? But then how would people know where he lives?"
"That's the point, idiot."
Alec laughed and said, "If I have to live the rest of my life with this, I'm happy I get to do it with you guys."
Brian wiped away fake tears, leaning over to wrap his arms around Alec's neck. "Oh, baby, I love you, too." He puckered his lips. "Kiss me."
All three laughed loudly. Brian wrapped his arms around Alec on his left and Ali on his right, dragging them to the elevator.
"If you're going to move, you'd better start packing now."
END
Shitty ending, I know. Super rushed. I'll fix it in the future when my writer's inspiration comes back to me lol.
