Despite both of them liking each other, Ali and Alec hadn't started to date. It seemed like Ali knew what she was doing by acting nonchalant--like they were just friends. She acted like she normally would, which only left Alec more confused than anything else.

On the flight back, they barely even spoke. She finished reading a long, bleary book needed for one of her classes, managed to sneak food onto the plane, and befriended the old woman sitting next to them without holding a conversation longer than three minutes with Alec. He desperately tried to ignore the slight hurt he was feeling by playing a game on his phone and finishing his law program application, but something kept pulling him back to Ali's behavior. He couldn't even focus on finding out what was going on with his "family drama."

That is until he saw the headline on Complex magazine at Laguardia.

Crazy Hot Sex!: the story of how Jo met his mystery girl...

Alec grabbed at the magazine and purchased it by throwing a ten dollar bill on the counter and walking out. The employees were too shocked to yell at him as he stormed out. Even the people in line he had technically cut off didn't say a thing. It was in an afterthought that Alec decided they were all tourists. No New Yorker would stay quiet a time like that.

Ali had disappeared minutes ago, but he couldn't care less at that moment. He was too busy ripping through the magazine pages to care. He read slow enough to catch the gist of the article and fast enough to miss every few words.

"...an inside source close to the late singer confirms that the 'hook up' was not simply a 'hook up.' 'They loved each other, those two,' our anonymous source said. 'She was a teenager, yeah, but the chemistry between them was undeniable. She was pregnant, too! Jo couldn't have been more in love..' " Alec mumbled under his breath. His body shook with anger and frustration.

Who could be doing this? Who could be ruining the nice, anonymous life he was building for himself? If people found out that he was Jo's son, everything would change. Paparazzi, fans of Jo's, Hollywood fakers--all that crap. He couldn't handle it.

"What's this?" Ali asked. She appeared so suddenly that Alec jumped away. "Calm down, sugar tits. I got you a Subway sandwich."

"Thanks." Alec took the foot long from her and reluctantly handed the magazine over.

Ali's smile slowly turned into a frown the more time she spent reading the article. Eventually she became annoyed and marched over to the trash before Alec could stop her. She threw the magazine down the circular trash can with tense arms. All Alec could do was stare as she marched back over and reached for his sweater pocket. Alec allowed her to pull his phone out.

"This Jason guy," she started, "he's your last unnamed call, right?"

"Yeah."

"Your mom should be here in a minute. When we get to your house we'll call him. And then we'll meet up with Brian at 16 Handles."

Brian completely slipped Alec's mind. He was so focused on stopping his exposure that he forgot about his best friend. Alec immediately texted him once he had his phone back and was met with no reply. Knowing Brian, he was either busy or sleeping, which comforted Alec a little. He shouldn't expect an answer for a few hours--at least three.

"Your mom's here."

The ride back was normal. His mom, as usual, asked interesting questions and Ali provided the interesting answers. They passed by a few cool places Alec decided he would visit and reached their apartment building within an hour. For the amount of traffic there was going both directions on the Van Wyck, it was a pretty good time to arrive.
