Hey so this is gonna be a Daryl Dixon fanfiction. I've had an idea plotted in my mind for months and i thought i might as well have a go at it. I'm going to try to have it follow some of the plot of the actual show, but i will be changing quite a few details. Please let me know what you think of the story, i'd like to make it good :)

Disclaimer: All characters and scenes except for the ones i've made up belong to AMC.

Sweat dripped down my forehead as I ran desperately trying to find a road with less walkers. They had been chasing me for miles and this heat wasn't making it any better. It seemed there wasn't anywhere else to check so I turned onto a street and ran for the nearest building I saw, pulling out my knife and taking out a few walkers along the way. "Stupid dead bastards." I mumbled to myself quietly.

I sped into the building, quickly shutting the glass doors and barricading it with whatever I could find. I sighed in happiness when I noticed it was a clothing store considering the only reason I came here was to find supplies. I pushed a clothing rack up against the doors but I knew it wouldn't do much to hold them back if they got through that glass. Didn't matter much to me anyways, I wouldn't be here long. Maybe there's another exit in this building.

I looked around and saw stairs that most likely lead to the roof. Before I would go up though I remembered I needed new clothes so I went through the racks grabbing t-shirts and tanks. It didn't matter how they looked anymore, I had no one to impress. Well unless you call a close call with a walker your first date. I smirked to myself at my remark but immediately became angered when I heard sounds of gunshots and someone yelling.

It sounded like it was coming from upstairs. I stuffed the clothes into my bag and ran up the steps. What was that bastard thinking? Was he trying to get himself killed? My blood boiled in anger as I raced up the steps. Finally I reached the top and yanked open the steel door.

I saw six people crowding around one man whose hollering voice I recognized. I stepped closer, the group still not noticing my presence. I made myself noticeable when I heard two men start to argue.

"What the fuck are you all doing?" They turned to look at me and a man in a sheriff's uniform approached me with his gun aimed at my face.

"Who are you? How did you get up here?" he questioned. I pointed at the door.

"Entered through there. And that isn't any way to treat someone that's trying to help you." I said, pushing his gun down. "Also, you pull that trigger again and I promise it'll be the last time you ever touch a gun. Those shots probably attracted even more walkers and I'm not up to run again. You'll get yourself and everyone else killed." The cop looked at me in disbelief.

"It wasn't me who was shooting. It was him." He pointed to a fairly large and tall redneck.

"What you pointin' at good ol' Merle for? I was just trying to kill them dead bastards!" He yelled out. I could easily tell he had a southern accent.

"Yeah well if it weren't for your dumb decision there would've been less walkers! Look at the streets now!" The black man yelled into his face. I walked over to the edge of the roof and peered over. Walkers filled the area, it would be impossible to make it out without getting bit.

"Yeah well I don't take orders from people like you." Merle spit.

"People like me? Say it. Say what you mean! Say it!" I still hadn't caught the black man's name. Merle smirked as he spoke.

"I don't take orders from niggers."

The black man lunged at Merle and started throwing punches. It was like all hell broke loose. Everybody started yelling and screaming for the two to stop but no one dared to step in. The cop tried but Merle clocked him hard in the nose. I made my way in. Couldn't these people take care of a fight? I threw myself in between and pushed Merle away, far enough that he tripped over a metal bar and fell on his back.

"Fucking enough!" I roared. They stopped struggling. I watched as the cop took out a pair of handcuffs and cuffed one of Merle's hands to a metal bar attached to the roof.

"What the fuck you doin'?!" Merle cried out.

"You can't be trusted to keep this group safe. Until you calm down and we find a way out of here, you're staying like that." The cop stood up and looked at me.

"So what's your name?" He asked.

"Avery." I paused. "What about you all." I waved my finger around the group.

"Nice to meet you Avery. I'm Rick. Over there is Glenn, Andrea, Morales and Jacqui. I guess you've already met T-Dog and Merle." Rick said while scratching the back of his neck. I nodded.

"So what exactly are you trying to do on this roof?" I asked Rick.

"Well Glenn just rescued me from that tank over there. I was trying to find my family." I nodded again.

"We need to find a way out of here." A blonde woman added. I recall her name was Andrea. "We would've gone out the front again but there's no way we'll make it again since the walkers are all here now." She said in frustration. I scoffed.

"Maybe if y'all smartened up the walkers wouldn't have noticed." I glared at Merle.

"Hey listen sweetheart givin' me looks ain't gonna help no one get out of this situation. You a feisty one though, I like that." Merle winked at me. I drew my gun and aimed at his head.

"Don't call me sweetheart. Ever." I threatened. Ugh. What a prick.

"Avery calm down. I know you're smart enough to put that gun down before you regret something." I doubted Rick until I realized he was right. I wasn't gonna waste bullets on this dick. I put my gun back into the pouch I kept it in.

"Well i'm looking for a way out of here too." Jacqui's face lit up at my words.

"Could you help us? We'd be so grateful." She pleaded me. The others looked at me with a pleading look as well and I sighed.

"Fine. But after we get out there ain't no following me. I'm going my own way." The others, except Merle, smiled.

"Not a problem." Andrea spoke.

"Alright." I walked to the edge and took a look at our options. That's when I noticed two large trucks parked in a construction site. I knew that they always kept the keys to those trucks on site so if I could get over the fence i'd be able to drive the car over. I'd need help though, someone would need to drive another car over and distract all the walkers so that I could pick up the rest of the group.

"I know what to do. But first we need to figure out a way to get past all those walkers unnoticed." I said. Everybody thought for a moment. Then Rick spoke.

"I have an idea." He said.

So there was the first chapter! I promise it'll get better and different soon, and there will be Daryl & Avery action. Please comment and let me know what you think! :)
