She laid back on the ground, feeling the soft grass tickle her back gently. She loved this feeling - green lush beneath her and the vast sky overhead. The smell of the morning dew on one of the rare mornings that she's the early riser.
She shuts her eyes and allows her mind to wander. There was a faint tickling on her nose and she twitched it on reflex. Moments later, the tickling sensation returned and she swatted hard at the hand disturbing her. When she opened her eyes, her view of the morning sky was thoroughly blocked, and in its place was a towering body looming over her.
"Didn't expect to not see you in bed when I woke up."
She shrugged, "Just couldn't fall asleep anymore."
"What is that pretty brain of yours thinking early in the morning?" he asked as he pecked her lips lightly.
She smiled against his lips and lifted one hand to cradle his sculpted face.
"About how lucky I am to have you. About how lucky I am that you never gave up. About how lucky I am that you came back and saved me. And about how lucky I am to be able to walk away from my past because you erased the scars."
He rolled onto his back, and pulled her so that she was lying flushed on top of him.
"I'm luckier," he declared, "that I can call you my girlfriend. That you had a friend like Mel who had the patience to deal with my daftness. That dreams come true."
"Lea, you were like a dream to me. Something I thought about but never dared to think it real. From the first moment I met you, I was attracted to you. And the more I knew you, the more I couldn't deny my strong liking towards you. The way you moved with grace, the way you dance as if no one's looking, the way you spoke with confidence, the way you pondered over things, the way you smiled. And every day when I wake up, I fall in love with you all over again. I'm honoured to be the one you chose as a boyfriend."
She smiled, wide but bashfully, and she silenced his speech with a kiss of her own. He pulled away after a while and got them both up on their feet. Clutching her hands tightly, continued.
"But now, can I have the honour of being your fiancé, and eventually, your husband?"
As he said the last word, he knelt on one knee and fished out a small velvet box from his pocket.

Decided to give this story the ending it deserves. I'm sorry to the readers who expected it to last a lot longer...school and life has been really damaging to my non-existent creativity. So instead of leaving you all with a bad taste in the mouth, I decided to just do a short epilogue and wrap things up here. Thanks for joining me on this ride - I really appreciate your upvotes and comments and look forward to them each time I update. This has been a really wonderful first story and I hope I will be able to write new stories in the future for all to enjoy.
If you'd like to get in touch with me, drop me a pm and I'll give you my twitter handle.
Hope you guys enjoyed this story. Do check out my short stories collection where I may still update when I have the feels and the time.
And lastly, happy birthday, Lea! Love you always.
