Chapter 2: Dagger in the Dark

RUKIO

Rukio was lucky that he grabbed a silencer before he left. The SMG he chose had a single fire switch, which made him favor the gun a lot more than when he first used it at Gord's place. Rukio decided to cut through the forest and use that path to the hospital. It was not a long walk, maybe four miles. As he entered the forest, he attached the silencer to the SMG, and switched it to single-fire.

Rukio tried to take as light of steps as he could. With all of the branches on the ground, it was all too easy to make a sound. Rukio tried to only step on the tree roots, and avoid the grass. It was not long before he encountered his first target. It was a small group of people, three, headed for Gord's house. Rukio flattened myself on the ground, he was lucky he was wearing all black clothes. As the squad stepped near my body, Rukio tried my best to hold my breath and not move at all.He remained unnoticed. When they were maybe ten feet away from Rukio, he slowly stood up and turned around, facing them. He lifted the SMG slowly, and aimed at their heads. Three bullets, three shots, less than three seconds. He felt certain that no one heard the shots. Rukio reloaded his SMG, then continued to the hospital.

Rukio took his time, he knew the other were far ahead of him, but he was certain he would die if he tried to attack the enemy head on. Rukio did not encounter anymore squads, but he did run into four stragglers. He put a bullet into their heads as soon as he saw them, he did not want to take any chances.

He crouched behind a tree when he heard someone talking. When he looked over, he saw two merc grunts, same kind of people he has killed so far. However, between them, was a man that wore more decorated armor. Rukio looked at his SMG clip, he was no where near low on ammo. He aimed down the sights of the SMG, pointing it at the far left merc. Rukio fired two single shots in a split second, dropping both lower rank mercs. When he saw the right one drop, Rukio summoned his sword from his guardian training and ran for the officer.

He caught the officer by surprise, but the officer was ready. When Rukio lunged with his sword, theofficer sidestepped. When Rukio stepped forward to recover balance, the officer grabbed Rukio's Hair and pulled him to the ground. The officer raised his fist in the air. Rukio was slightly dazed from his head hitting the ground. When the officer pushed his fist to Rukio, Rukio rolled out of the way in time. The officer's fist left an imprint in the rocky ground. Rukio quickly stood up and stood at a fighting stance, sword ready. The officer pulled out a sword of his own. His sword was two handed and cumbersome, but very deadly. The two ran towards each other.

The officer pushed his sword out in a lunge, trying to stab Rukio. Rukio raised his foot up and stepped on the edge of the sword, causing it to stab into the ground. Rukio ran two steps up the sword, then swung is sword equal to the officer's neck. The officer ducked, and flung his sword upward, causing Rukio to loss balance and jump back. The officer slung his sword over his shoulder. Rukio readied his stance again, and prepared for another attack. The officer started to shake. Rukio eased his stance, but still reamined on guard. The officer fell to the ground, trembling. When Rukio stepped forward, he was thrown back. Some powerful force came from the officer. Rukio smashed into a tree and fell to the ground. When he looked up, he quickly gained an adrenaline rush. The officer was no more. The figure resembled an armored figure. It was pure black with red glowing features. The figure had no wings, but also did not touch the ground. It had a sword and shield, both black with a red trim. The sword looked as though fire was burning on it, but the fire was black. The officer became a Nega Angel.

Rukio readied his stance and concentraited his energy. He was able to turn into the same guardian as he was able to two nights before. Unliek the Nega Angel, Rukio had no armor. Rukio wore white robes. Rukio's sword was thin and fine, and Nega's was bulky. Rukio smirked and thought to himself, "Hardly a fair fight."

Nega charged at Rukio with his sword outstreched. Rukio Charged at Nega. When their swords collided, the forced caused the trees to bend away from them. The officer pushed with all the strength he had, but Rukio evenly matched him. They both pushed back. The officer immediately charged for Rukio. Rukio did not expect him to react so fast. Rukio blocked his sword, and swung his shield around. The shield made contact with Nega's head, and cause him to lose his balance. Rukio pulled his left arm back, and focused his energy on his sword. The shield glowed bright blue and shifted shape. As Nega got up, he saw Rukio. Nega picked up his sword and lifted it over his head, about to swing it down on Rukio. Rukio put his left arm in front of him, outstretched. What was once a shield was now a gun. Rukio pulled the trigger, and sent Nega to the afterworld.

Rukio faded back to human. He did not faint this time, but he was extremely weak. When Rukio heard voices of people around him, he started to run to the hospital.
