After Topanga left the room, the girls were left in silence.
Riley glanced over at her blonde.... friend? Girlfriend? And slowly admired her features, still in shock and slight disbelief at the recent events.

Maya's golden locks shimmered from the bay window's incoming glow, and it seemed to illuminate her whole face, her hair a crowning halo of shining light.
"She's always been beautiful to me, but now Everything seems to be in a new light...literally."
Riley thought to herself, extending her hand to reach Maya's.

Maya turned towards the brunette, but her gaze shrunk when her eyes met Riley's. She couldn't seem to keep her gaze, and guilty thoughts pushed on her mind telling her why. Her crystal blue eyes filled with sadness.

Riley looked at her, confused as to why this new shyness had developed. She gently caressed her shoulder, prodding her to tell her what was wrong. Riley leaned over to her, her gentle doe eyes just as loving and open as before.

Maya finally met her chocolate gaze, sighing.

"I just... I realized that we weren't very honest with each other about... you know... and I feel like If we can't tell each other about feelings, then how are we going to make it at all?"
Maya's eyes filled with tears. The mere prospect of losing the girl that meant everything to her scared her out of her wits.

Riley stared back at the blonde, processing what she had said. She rejoined their hands, slowly moving her thumb across the bridge of her knuckles to comfort the distressed blonde. The sun had gone down some, and her golden girl was getting darker, darker, darker.
"Just because we didn't tell each other about our feelings doesn't mean we're doomed, Maya. We were both just scared. Falling for your best friend might not always seem like the best idea to some."
Riley joked, earning a small giggle from Maya through her tears.
"But, you wanna know what I've known since you first crawled through my window?"
Riley questioned, bent on reassuring the girl of their bond.

Maya looked at her, her blue eyes curious, and a bit brighter than they were before.

The brunette smiled at her, her eyes warm and assuring.
"I know that we're special. I know that what we have, whether it's a friendship or a relationship, will last forever. You mean everything to me, and that's never going to change. This is new. New is... good. I'm ready if you are, because I know That we will
always be Riley and Maya."
She finished her speech, looking expectedly at the blonde.
Maya hesitated, looking at Riley.

"She's always been my friend, and she always will be. You love her. You always have, and she loves you too. You've always been able to talk to each other. That's not going to change now."  Maya reassured herself. She met Riley's gaze full on, a small grin working its way onto her tear-stained cheeks.

Riley brought her hand up to the blonde's pale face, wiping away a stray tear, gently kissing her cheek.

Maya smiled, holding up her other hand, her "friendship" ring glittering as usual.
"Thunder." She said, newfound hope in her voice.
Riley smiled, joining both of their hands.
"Lightening." Riley replied, a grin tugging the edges of her lips.
"A little scared..." Maya looked down at this. Riley lifted up her chin into her hand.
"Me too, but we're still us." The brunette assured.

Both girls leaned forward slowly, their lips brushing ever so gently. In that moment, they turned gold.
