Chapter 5

Nate was talking to me, but I couldn't seem to process the many words streaming out of his mouth.  All that I could focus on was those green eyes and his wide smile.  

I smiled and nodded as I continued to  stare into those deep green pools.  At that moment he laughed and I tuned back in as he continued to laugh.

"And at that moment, Jason slammed right into me and we both fell right into my pool!  It was so god damn cold, but we laughed it off as we climbed out of the pool shivering!"  He looked at me with those big green eyes and I knew that he expected a response.

I was about to speak when I felt a vibration near my heart.   I looked in Nate's direction and gave him an apologetic smile and he waved it off.  I quickly pulled my phone from my bra and pressed the glowing green button.  I pulled the phone up to my ear as I heard a deep voice speaking to me.

"Sam!  Is that you?  My god, I've missed you!  But why are you calling me at school?"  My emotions varied as I spoke to my brother that had just finished college.  I heard a woman's sweet gentle voice in the background and my smile widened.  

"Sam, do you have something you need to tell me?"  I asked trying to hide the excitement in my voice. 

"Kami, I am going to tell you something that you must not tell mom, dad, anyone.  It's about Amy and I..."  My smile grew as Nate looked at me curiously.  I tried to mouth to him that it was my brother, but I wasn't sure if he understood.

"Amy and I are getting engaged."  He said to me in a quiet tone, as if he was scared that I was going to freak out.  And yet, I promptly did.  I jumped up from the chair I was sitting in and promptly started to  dance, badly.  Nate looked up at me with a smirk and I looked down at him with a wide grin.  I could feel eyes on me but I really didn't care.  I could hear Sam's voice coming from my phone in my hand over my head.  I heard laughter coming from close by and I looked across the table to see Angie standing up and start to dance too.  She danced towards me and we held hands and we danced.  

"Why are we dancing?"  She laughed at me with a wide smile.  

"My brother's getting married!"  I smiled back at her. 

We both kept dancing with each other until we both we breathing heavy and laughing hard.  We collapsed  in a laughing heap and looked into each other's eyes with wide smiles.  Just then the bell rang.  We both looked up and then looked back at each other.  We gave each other one more smile as we stood up, grabbed our bags and walked out the door to our next class.

"Hey, what was that about?"  Nate said to me as he caught up with us.  

"My brother just got engaged!"  I said with a wide smile.  "Hey, would you like to come with me to his house after school?  I'm sure he will be happy that i've made a friend."  I asked as I looked up into his green eyes.  His face went blank for a split second and I heard and sharp intake of breath and then he smiled.

"Of course I will."  He said to me.  

"I will see you in class then."  I said with another smile as I turned the corner with Angie to our lockers.  

"I will see you soon."  I whispered to myself as I rubbed the ring on my finger.  "I will see you soon."
