He just couldn't handle the fact that his boyfriend was dying and he couldn't do anything. He didn't mean to cheat on purpose. Wesley was so heartbroken and he couldn't handle the guilt or his broken heart so he stopped dating completely. He absolutely loved his former boyfriend and he still does, he thinks about him all the time and what it would of been like if he was still alive.
