Chapter 9
━━━━━━━━━
I laughed as Marcus jumped down off the stage, a brighter smile on his face than I had ever seen on him before. I smiled as he took my hand and led me over to the snack table.
"What was that?" I teased as I popped a chip into my mouth. He shrugged and picked up a water bottle.
"That, was me getting my t-shirt signed by the band while we were backstage. And how much fun did you have standing there watching me?"
"Enough." I said. The happy feeling that had settled in my chest while watching him up on stage soon flew from me as I let my fingers curl around the necklace Chase had given me two years ago. The matching bracelet swayed over my wrist as I let my hands fall to my sides. I shouldn't be having fun. Just, think of your first date with Chase. That was utterly perfect. A smile settled on my face as our first kiss played in my mind as well. There was no one else I would rather be here with.
"He gave you those, didn't he?" Marcus said, barely loud enough for me to hear. I frowned as I turned to face him. What was he talking about?
"What?" I tried, I had no idea what he was talking about. All I wanted, was for him to be more specific with his words. It's like the kid has some kind of bolder holding him back from doing that.
"The necklace and the bracelet. The giant letter C kind of gave it away. But wait, where's the matching ring? You know, cause your pregnant." Marcus snipped. I rolled my eyes and leaned back against the table. Well he had a complex.
"Marcus, for one thing, I am not pregnant. Adam was being Adam and was hoping me and his fiancé would have babies at the same time. And for another, Chase has been my boyfriend for two years, I'm going to be wearing the jewelry he's given me." I rambled, only one thought staying planted in my mind as Marcus glanced down to my hand. "There is no matching ring."
"I'm sorry," He whispered as he reached over and took my hand in his own, "Do you want to go home? I can drop you off and leave before he knows." I laughed lightly, it seemed weird to be talking like that. Like I was cheating on Chase. But I shook my head, I wasn't done getting to know Marcus just yet.
"I'm still hungry you know." I teased as I pulled him over to the back door. He laughed and walked up ahead of me, opening the passenger's door for me as I hopped inside. Marcus got in soon after, starting the car as I pulled my seatbelt over myself.
"So, what was have you been doing since high school?" He asked as a silence overtook us. I glanced out the window to see us gliding right by MCU.
"College." I answered without a second thought. I had put the majority of my life into my schooling, while the last year-
"What about the past couple months? Didn't you graduate already?" Marcus asked sarcastically, a sly smile taking over his face as he kept driving on. I sighed and nodded, knowing he had already talked with me about these things. The more he kept on about what I had been doing since college, the more I thought of Chase. This wasn't a date though... Technically. This was two, friends, having a fun night together. I knew deep down though, that I was lying to myself, and to Chase. He would kill me if he found out I was with Marcus instead of Adam right now.
"Bree?" Marcus asked. I nodded, glancing over to him as he continued to drive. I sighed as I watched us go on, getting farther and farther away from home.
