A/N: The diseases I use in this story are fictional, though some names of these do exist in real life. However, they have nothing to do with the real life versions!

There's something about hardships that make time feel so slow. Yet, when you look back, you can't believe how long you've been in the mess. Cecil's recovery was coming along as I thought it would. Slow for a vampire, but still pacing by quickly. Unfortunately, as he grew healthier this past week, someone else has be going downhill. We can never catch a break.

I unlocked the front door, holding it for Remington. He'd come home from work with me today to make a house call. His specialty is one that honestly shocks me how much it's needed out here. He's a Rheumatologist, aka the doctor that specializes in auto immune and joint diseases. Sivny, the condition both Ryan and Vinny have, is considered an auto immune disease. It's never easy to explain, let alone treat. Even for a very talented doctor like Remington, it can still be a mystery.

Chris glanced over the back of the couch as he heard us walk in. He got up, instantly coming to my side to kiss my cheek. "Hey, Baby." His voice sounded rough, like he was tired. It was really sexy. "How was your day?"

"Busy, like usually." I responded, "Is Vinny awake?"

"Uh-hum," Chris looked down the hall just as Ghost was coming our way. He seemed displaced by the look in his eyes. "Is Vin awake?"

"Yeah. Does he even sleep anymore?" Ghost muttered.

Of anyone, he's been taking this the hardest. No matter how much he likes to poke fun at Vinny and joke around with him, they still are best friends. They're like brothers to one another. It's not uncommon for his bad bouts of his disease to leave him bedridden for a week or two at a time. What's raised concern in all of us is that Ryan is fine. Usually, they both get ill at the same time, but he's never been healthier.

"Remington's going to look him over to see if he can help him." I said.

"May I come in with you?" Ghost asked, "Doctors make him nervous."

"Of course. I've had many patients that come to me way later than they should just because they're afraid of the doctor's. I don't get what's so bad about us." Remington replied.

Chris raised his eyebrow, "You've met Emerson, right? I'd be scared to let him treat me too."

"I..." He paused as he thought, "I have to argument for that. He is... well, a whole new creature in his own, but I couldn't picture life without him. Now, onto the patient."

I turned towards the hallway, gesturing him along, "This way."

Vinny's room was the first door. Being the youngest, he got the last pick of rooms. That left him with the room closest to the living room, meaning it's hard for him to sleep during the mornings and evenings. We try to keep the noise down but some things can't be prevented. Like Ghost said though, he doesn't sleep anyways. The pain keeps him up. I've tried a few remedies that usually worked in the past but they aren't helping like they used to. Angel dust is the only way I can get him to sleep.

I quietly opened his door, peaking in to see he was indeed awake. He's in too much pain to move, so he just stairs at the wall or ceiling. I felt so bad for the poor thing. Vinny's easily the most innocent of us, even more than Felix. In fact, I think he's younger than him even. It's always the innocent that receive the most agony.
