Ghost opted to go into the back room by himself. I completely understood. He might've asked me to come for companionship, but there's some things that people have to do for themselves. I took a seat in the little waiting area. This place looked like it was a house made into a clinic. With only what looked like only two doctors here, I'm sure it's a private practice. Sometimes those are a lot more pleasant for the more emotion things like this.
The second door opened and out walked the other doctor. I only looked back to see if it was Ghost coming out but it wasn't. I'm assuming they're doctors, or once were when they were in Hell. They could be midwifes or even just medicine men. As long as they know what they're doing and they can help Ghost, I'm happy.
"He's always late." The other doctor muttered while checking his schedule at Maxine's desk.
She snickered, "Thought you'd expect it at this point."
"Yeah, guess I should." He sighed heavily. The sound of a sharp page turning rested in the silence. "...Devin's here? Why?"
"You know I can't tell you." She murmured.
That's a damn good receptionist. Maybe she's a nurse, I don't really know. Either way, the fact that she was abiding by medical practices that don't even exist in this realm made me very pleased. In both Heaven, Earth, and even in Hell, doctors aren't aloud to divulge client information without the client's consent. Not even to other doctors.
"Did he come alone?" He asked.
"No." She responded, and I assumed pointed to me.
My back was turned to them. I was only hearing their conversation, not seeing it. The doctor's boots tapped along the old hardwoods as he walked around the couch. I peered up through my hair, seeing a rather lengthy man. He was pretty punk for a doctor, but then again, he was a vampire.
"A crow." He marveled quietly, his eyes glistening over me. The doctor straightened himself out, "I'm sorry. I don't mean to be rude but I've never seen a crow in person before."
"That's because we're rare as it is, but we're highly hunted. I have a good protector though." I responded.
He held a glass of liquor in his hand, of which he took a slow drink from. Upon lowering the glass, he said, "Your protector is ill."
My eyes darted up to his, "How do you know that?"
"I can smell Chris' venom in your blood. I was the one that diagnosed him with Hallow Hex." He extended his hand to my, "JC Charles."
"Angelo Cerulli." I replied, taking a new found interest in this man.
If he was there, back then, he may know some things Chris isn't willing to tell me. I love my husband very much but it's just too painful for him to talk about his past. When he does, it's very abbreviated. I've wanted to know more but I would never push him.
JC sat down beside me, putting his drink on the table. "How is he? I haven't seen him in... Since well before the war, actually."
"He was doing okay for awhile. A few days ago, Ricky and Devin's youngest passed away. Chris was his guardian and he's blaming himself for it. The stress is making him so ill. I would've stayed with him if Dev didn't need me more now." I explained.
The feather pen that had a consistent writing pattern against that desk stopped abruptly, "Tokyo died?" Maxine softly asked. She sounded shattered, and when I looked back over the couch to her, you would've thought she'd seen a ghost.
