Chapter 4: In the Nick of Time

Nick and I went up and down the mall for awhile and he told me all about himself. I never knew a boy could have so much going for him! “Well, for starters,” he started, “I have Type 1 diabetes. I can’t live without my insulin.”

“Oh no!” I responded with a shock. How could someone so perfect have such a fatal flaw?

“Eh, you get used to it. Anyway, I was born 3:39 AM on 16th September 1992 in Dallas, Texas.”

“Wow! Exotic!”

“My favorite color is blue,” he told me with confidence.

“Same!”

“My dog’s name is Elvis, named after my heros Elvis Dumervil and Elvis Andrus. I love those guys. I used to have a dog named Coco too, but he died :(“

“No way! I have a talking ferret named Coco!”

Nick seemed taken back by that comment, but moved on without question. “I have three brothers too.”

“Three?!?!?!?!” I said totally confused. I thought he only had two brothers!

“Yeah. My older brother is named Paul Kevin Jonas Jr.”

“...I know that.”

“My middle brother’s name is Joseph Adam Jonas.”

“You’ve already told me this stuff, Nick.”

“My younger brother is Frankie Nathaniel Jonas.”

I was shocked. No one had mentioned a bonus Jonas. “I’d love to meet him!” I said genuinely.

“You already have ;)” Nick said back with a wink. “Our parents are named Paul Kevin Jonas Sr. and Denise Jonas. They birthed and raised us.”

“Neat!”

“My middle name is Jerry. What’s yours?”

I was caught off guard because I didn’t think we’d talk about me. Nick’s way cooler than me. Who cares about me? “My middle name is Clapp.” I told him.

“My favourite food is steak and my favorite ice cream flavor is cotton candy.” he said as he changed the subject back to himself. Classic Nick move.

“You eat them together?” I really wanted to know.

“lol no. I used to date Miley Cyrus in 2006/07, you know.”

“I used to have a boyfriend who really liked her, but I forget his name. It was like a jewelry store or something. Oh well.”

“I played Nate Gray in Camp Rock and Nick Lucas in our hit TV program JONAS/Jonas LA. Did you know that?”

“No! How interesting!” I wondered what it was like to be an actor, but I didn’t dare ask Nick. He’d tell me when he was ready.

“I have a pop quiz question for you, Lauren.” he told me suspiciously. I didn’t know I was going to be quizzed on these random facts about him. “Who is my biggest fan?”

This was a tough question, and I thought it over long and hard. “No, it’s Lauren Clapp :D” he said as he leaned in for the kill. We kissed like I had never kissed anyone before. We kissed like people such as Hitler and Jesus might. But suddenly Nick backed away and collapsed.

“I didn’t take my insulin today!” he screamed. A crowd of people surrounded us as paramedics showed up and started to take him away. “Wait for me, Lauren!” Nick said weakly.

“Should I go with him for support?” I thought to myself. “Is that what a good girlfriend would do?”

“Forget him,” said the familiar voice of Joe behind me. “Take my hand and join me for the rest of the night. Together we can be happy.”

He took my hand and we walked away. I had myself a new boyfriend.
