It was snowy when I moved to Houston. My mother said I need to blend in with people. It's not difficult, but time consuming. Now with my mother dead, I live on my own. I'm in college which is good.
I'm terribly sorry if I seem boring now.
It won't happen again.
I promise.
I walked around at night. I do get bored after a while.
It happens.
It was strange to see a shop in the ghetto part of the city. It looked like an herb shop. You can smell the different herbs in the street. Surprisingly this is a quiet street.
I walked inside and a lone girl was behind the counter. She had dark chopped hair and dark eyes. She looked about my age. "Welcome. I'm here if have any questions. Please feel free to look around. "She said shyly. I looked around and it was nothing but plants everywhere. I glanced at the girl and she was gasping for air.
"Miss, are you alright?" I asked.
She nodded and straightened herself up. "Yes, please don't let me bother you." She assured me. Is she sick? I nodded and turned back around.
I wasn't sure what is the purpose of this shop.
I heard a snarl and I turned around. It was the girl. She wheezed and looked up. Her eyes, they were abnormal! They were black and had a red cat eye. "You... smell..." She uttered out between wheezes.
She lunged towards me and said, "I smell it, the demon in you." I tried to kick her off but she had me pinned down. She sniffed my neck and got off me.
She hurried to the counter and slide down. I sat up and heard crying. I hurried to the counter and she had her head between her knees. "Please forgive me. I never had an attack like this." She apologized. An attack? What nonsense is this? "What are you talking about?" I asked with worry. She looked up at me and her eyes were back to normal. "You are a half- blood, right?" She asked.
"What the hell is a half-blood?" I demanded. She nodded and mumbled, "of course."
She stood up and walked towards me. Her eyes were distant and she walked pass me. Behind me was another door. "Follow me." She said while opening the door.
This better not be a sick joke.
We walked up stairs and it looked like a room. She wiped her face from the tears and said, "Please make yourself comfortable. I'll make tea." She said while leaving the room.
I sat on the bed and looked at a photo. I picked it up.
It had two young girls and a woman. They all look depressed and had distant looks. That is sad. "That is a photo of my family. Well, the ones that were the closest." She said while having her head close to mine. I jumped and dropped it. The glass shattered. She cringed and sighed. "I'm so sorry." I said while staring at it with horror. "The fault was mine. You have no need to apologize." She said while setting down a tray. "I'm grateful you are here. I rarely have anyone here." She continued.
"This is a special brew. I selected the herbs myself." She said while pouring hot water into a cup. She half smiled and sat on the chair across from me. She put tea bags in and handed it to me. "You asked what is a half blood, I will explain it. Please feel free to disagree." She said after setting down her cup.
"I believe you have a single parent?" She asked. I nodded and she sneered.
"My mother was the one that took care of me."
"You have no idea who is your biological father?" She asked. I nodded.
"Was she overprotective?" She asked after taking a sip. I never believed she was overprotective. She done what was right for me.
